As it was seen as a pretty contentious issue, and as forum polls are not exactly the most secure or accessible for all players, there's now a vote in-game for the resolution cap of 1920x1200 in TWDD. This is how resolution limits were originally removed in 2016, so it seems only fair that a similar vote is used to reinstate a res limit.
The vote requires a TWD-enabled name. Voting twice will result in a substantial ban. The polls close Dec 1.
To vote, ?go TWD, PM TW-Vote with !polls, then !view 23, then !vote 1 or !vote 2.
Here's a copy of the arguments in favor and opposed as they appear on the bot:
IN FAVOR:
+ The majority of players can't play above 1920x1200. It's a high but fair limit.
+ Higher res than this is an unfair advantage. Dodging is easier and shots that were radar shots can be tracked on screen.
+ It completely changes how the game is played. SS was not created for ultra-high res. It shows more of the screen rather than scaling ship size.
+ Ultra-high resolutions make DDs slower and less exciting due to the change in play style.
+ Resolution limits in TWD should be the same as in TWDT and TWL for the sake of consistency and skill transfer.
OPPOSED:
- We've had no limit for years now, and it hasn't been a problem.
- In 2020, many people have monitors that go above 1920x1200, and perform best at their native resolution.
- Using a lower resolution than native means you have to either run the game in a window, or run non-native and have a blurry/distorted image.
- Windowed/non-native res is distracting and unimmersive. It's hard to play as well at non-native res, so it punishes players for their hardware.
- Res limits force players to change res (quit & re-enter) just to play TWD.
- TWD is not as serious as TWDT or TWL. It's about having fun. There's no reason res limits need to be the same as in more competitive leagues.
