Trenchwars Salary League
Hi everyone. In an effort to revitalize TW squads and bring a sense of community back into the game, I have come up with a league idea, all automated within TWD, that allows for captains to create their own rosters, prevent stacking with values associated with players while also not hindering lineups with star caps. This league would initially be a TWD, 24/7 run league, with playoff matches then scheduled. While talking with staff, we have determined to set specific days for this league if it were to be run, and setting time aside to run MMR as well. The cool thing is, MMR directly correlates with this league idea, so everything that you do in the game and all the progress that you make will be accounted for.
This is a league that mimics the style of professional sport teams in terms of acquiring, or, “signing” players. It is an idea that I have had for a while and mixes TWDT and TWL. This would be a good way to bring back that old sense of community and competitiveness that past DT/TWL seasons offered, while also incorporating MMR and revitalizing TWD.
League Setup
5 Squads - 2 Captains per squad (One main captain picks his right hand guy). Both of these players run the team with the main captain having the final say (obviously). Captains can assign assistant captains for their squad to get games as necessary.
Team Rosters are the same for all three divisions (Warbird, Javelin, Base)
3 Month TWD Seasons. Unlimited matches able to be played during those 3 months (games can be had 24/7 unless another league is running).
First season will likely only last a month and be a test-run. This means that the number of squads for future seasons can be increased with an increased interest in the league.
How are Rosters Determined?
Every team has a max salary cap. The salary cap is the same for every team to establish balance.
Every player has a salary, including captains. This salary is determined based on how well the player generally performs, including MMR rating, DT rating, and prior season performance.
The salaries for players change every season, and can increase or decrease depending on performance or “value”.
There will be no star cap, or talent cap, for lineups.
How will the Salary Cap be measured?
The salary cap measurement would be a $ value, the system is set up in a way that takes DT ratings and MMR into consideration, and rates players accurately. These ratings will likely undergo changes mid season in TWD, depending on the players activity, skill increases/decreases, or any other factors that may come into play. The ratings will likely need to be adjusted twice per TWD season. (3 month TWD season = 2 rating adjustment periods for players, once at the end of the first month, and another at the end of the second month). These ratings will likely need to be looked at by the head-ops of the league who are running the show that season. Player input should be taken into account, as well as current MMR performance.
Recruitment?
This is a section that is up for open discussion as I have several ideas for how this league can go down.
Main Idea of the League: Captains are free to talk to players they want to sign and recruit. Captains will negotiate with players, similar to TWL, to join their roster. This will have to be more calculated than TWL as you cannot stack players due to a salary cap. Once a player has decided to sign for a team, they are locked into that team for the season and cannot leave unless traded. Doing so, or refusing to play during the season, will result in an initial warning, then a ban if not acknowledged. There will be a 2-3 week period prior to the first games for captains to talk to players. This would be the “signing period”. ALL PLAYERS PRIOR TO THE SIGNING PERIOD WILL BE ALLOCATED A SALARY. Once the first week of games begin, captains will no longer be able to sign players, but we will hold free agency periods twice during the season so captains can sign players and keep new or returning players involved. These free agency periods may see a slight salary cap increase. Of course, captains can make trades up until the trade deadline during the regular season.
Will there be no star caps?
No. The lineups made per game will not have a talent limit. Captains can mix and match their lines in whatever way they feel necessary. The players' personal salaries do not affect match lineups, the salaries only affect the roster as a whole.
Where will these rosters be held and where will we be able to see salaries?
The rosters should be established in twd. It would get the website back into a nice groove as well as incorporate some form of twd and a SENSE OF COMMUNITY back into the game. The salaries will be held on a separate spreadsheet, but teams may be required to show their salaries on the main page of the squad roster.
What if a player signs to a team but cannot continue playing for the rest of the season or quits without a good reason?
If a player quits the season out of the blue without a good reason (vacation, real life stuff getting in the way) or because of drama, etc. This player will first get warned, then banned. If a player refuses to play for a team they are traded for, they will first get warned, then banned. This ban covers the rest of the current season as well as the season after. The warning would last for 48 hours. If not acknowledged or if the situation is not solved, a ban will ensue.
If a player on your team gets banned or is off of the roster, their salary will not go towards your salary cap, and you would be free to sign a Free Agent who is not yet involved in the league.
Salary Adjustment Periods
Throughout the season, there will be salary adjustments for all players, derived from MMR stats, player ratings, activity, etc. If players on your roster end up above the salary cap, the captain of that team must make moves to either trade those players or release them into FA, or else all players who got bumped in salary would automatically be removed from the roster within 7 days.
Players on a leave of absence for legitimate reasons
Players that are on rosters may notify captains of a leave of absence, showrate issues, or anything else which may affect their playtime within the game (as long as it is legitimate). Every team will have a LTR (Long-Term Reserve) space that can hold two players. Two absent players may be put on this list at any time or moved from it. Players on LTR will not count toward the salary cap for the team. (Think LTIR in sports)
Is there a cap for how many players can sign to a team?
There will be no cap on how many players you can have on your roster, as long as all of those players fit below or at the salary cap.
Trades
Captains can trade with each other as long as the trades ensure both teams are still below or at the salary cap. Trades will need to be reviewed by league ops to ensure fairness for both sides. There are no trading limits. Teams can trade up until the final week of the regular season. (Cannot trade players on the final week before playoffs).
Regular Season and Playoffs
6 - 8 Week regular season for season 1 (can have a community vote).
2 weeks of playoffs right after; 1 team does not make it to playoffs per division. Semis and finals only for playoffs. Each series is a best of 3. Playoff games are held on Sundays at normal league times.
Playoff Qualifications
Top 4 teams in terms of Win/Loss % and overall wins will make it to the playoffs (1 team eliminated in each division). Each team must have at least 25 games played to qualify in each division. The better your win/loss % is (your squads overall record in that division), the higher chance you will make playoffs or have a higher seed. I will have to work with staff on possibly re-doing the standings and how rank is determined on the TWD site for this.
Why do I think this will be a good idea for the zone?
Salaries and Salary Caps
Salary Cap (Per Squad): $110,000,000
Tier Cap Per Squad: ONLY 4 S-TIER PLAYERS ARE ALLOWED PER SQUAD. NO TIER RESTRICTIONS FOR ANY OTHER TIERS.
The salaries per players will be divided into 5 tiers, these being: S Tier Players, A Tier Players, B Tier Players, C Tier Players, D Tier Players
S Tier Player Salaries: $8,000,000 - $10,000,000
S Tier Player Example: Zidane (Wb: 8* Jav: 10* Base: 10*) (MMR Jav: 4500+) (MMR WB: 3000)
S Tier players are the cream of the crop in the zone. These players are generally very consistent in multiple divisions, and often lead stat sheets with a history of winning records and titles. Because Zidane is a 10* in jav/base but is only an 8* in WB with an average WB MMR rating, he would be an S Tier Player worth $9,000,000.
A Tier Player Salaries: $6,000,000 - $8,000,000
A Tier Player Example: Hellkite (Wb: 7.5* Jav: 8.5* Base: 9.5*) (MMR: 3800+)
A Tier players are generally solid all-around players who can pop-off in any ship. They generally favor one of the divisions, while being slightly above average for the others. For Hellkite, he is mainly a baser with jav experience, he is a multiple time twlb champion with a solid jav mmr rating, an appropriate salary would be $7,000,000.
A Tier players are the only tier that can be worth as much as the tier above but not be counted as an S tier player.
B Tier Player Salaries: $4,000,000 - $5,500,000
B Tier Player Example: Riverside (Wb: 8.5* Jav: 8* Base: 8*) (MMR: 3500+)
B Tier Players are slightly above average players in multiple divisions, often being reliable in key situations in multiple ships and have a decent winning history within the zone. Riverside is a good example of a player who is above average in every division, and can be a key piece for a team in all three divisions. His salary would be appropriate at $5,000,000 due to his MMR ratings not being too high.
C Tier Player Salaries: $2,000,000 - $3,500,000
C Tier Player Example: Omega Red (Wb: 6.5* Jav: 7.5* Base: 8.5*) (MMR: 3000+)
C Tier players are generally players who are above average in a single division, while being average or below-average in other divisions. This tier consists of decent players who have been playing the game for a good amount of time, although their lack of practice in other divisions may lower their salary. This will likely be the easiest division to get moved out of. Omega Red fits this description as he is a tenured basing veteran, but his average play in other leagues forces him to take a lower salary. He would max out at $3,500,000 due to his basing knowledge, slightly above average jav skills, and average mmr rating. Though his WB ratings are what lower his overall salary.
D Tier Player Salaries: $500,000 - $1,500,000
D Tier Player Example: Groan (Wb: 6.5* Jav: 6.5* Base: 8*) (MMR: Anything Under 3000)
D tier players have the lowest roster salary due to this category being one that holds many newer players, players who don’t have much league experience, returning players, and those who may have played for a while but have a below-average skillset. Groan would be a good example of a player who doesn’t have much league experience outside of basing, and although he is a decent baser, his lack of experience in other leagues forces him in the D Tier, which means he has a lower salary at around $1,000,000.

Restricting Aliasers and How People Sign Up
A proper step in signups would be to sign up and register through the TWD bot (as it has always been), however joining squads that are involved in the TWD salary cap league are only eligible to those who are active on the salary sheet. Players must be rostered on their main name. If multiple aliases are found on separate rosters for squads included in that season, that player will first be warned, then banned for three future seasons.
How Player Salaries are Determined
Every player has a base salary derived from their DT ratings in the previous season. The base salary then goes through 3 formulas to determine overall mean salary. These overall salaries determine how expensive an individual player is.
The Formulas:
Both MMR Test: For dt ratings ratings: 1* = 1mill, so for bombed for example, DTD 9x1m DTJ 10x1m = 19m. For mmr the same thing but doubled to get close to the same ratings.....the high end of ratings in mmr are about 5000, so doubling it gives us something close to a "10" if that makes sense. then divide by 4 since there are 4 ratings to get an average.
High MMR Test: Same thing with dt as above but mmr only uses the highest rating of mmrD or mmrJ then divide by 3 since there are only 3 ratings to get an average.
Base MMR Test: The base test is all 3 DT ratings X 1m, plus the mmr ratings X 2000 divided by 5.
We decided not to use base MMR ratings as those games are not evenly played often, and many player ratings are messed up due to the lack of bot automation. Instead, we incorporated basing DT ratings as the main scaler.
All three of these formulas + Base Salary value from DT ratings = a player’s final salary, rounded up to the nearest $500,000.
Low MMR ratings see an increase/decrease of $500,000 to $1 Million due to the high numbers these formulas give to lower rated players.
There is a tab on the bottom of that sheet, which puts these player salaries into last season’s DT rosters. Feel free to take a look at the $ value associated with TWDT Season 28 rosters. This is mainly why the Salary Cap to begin would be $110 million per squad. This allows for a low enough salary cap to prevent stacking, while also incorporating the majority of the zone into the league.
To Conclude…
Special thank you to Dwopple, RageRitual, Willby, and anyone else who may have chimed in to help me with this project. There is a clear love for the game, and seeing the toxicity and player drop-off (especially with basers) caused by MMR is not a good direction for the zone.
I hope this idea will be well received. I put a lot of time and effort into this and would like some legitimate feedback from our playerbase. All players are welcome to give their thoughts. There are probably many kinks to still figure out with a league like this, so quality feedback is important and I will be looking at every comment on this thread.
Be sure to check that salary sheet I linked earlier! It displays all active players and their value from DT/MMR, mock rosters, and DT rosters from the previous season with these salary values.

- Incorporates the usage of TWD and TWD rostering.
- Does not handicap good players with lineups. Allows for teams to consistently sport competitive lineups resulting in higher quality games.
- Prevents roster stacking but ensures high quality match-ups. Every captain is afforded the same opportunities, regardless of skill level.
- Promotes playing with preferred people to team with.
- Allows for adjustable ratings and changes to the league often with short seasons and mid-season adjustments (This is viable due to it being a TWD focused league).
