I like the new idea, it would prevent hiding, but what if the other team drags the game on by not attacking for a really long time... like say Squad A vs Squad B, squad a is losing so they hide for a sufficient amount of time until 1 or 2 people from Squad B have to go.. then they would have a huge advantage and be able to win it, this doesn't really apply to TWL but it could happen in TWD many many times...

I really like the idea of point or time races, instead of a set 20 or 30 minute game. The reasons are obvious, but one that I didn't see anyone mention is that this gives any team an oppertunity to win at any point in the game. In the timed games, there is a certain point where it is impossible for the other team to win. This way, you always have a chance to win, even if the other team needs only 5k points and then they lose the flag.
Also, now that I think of it, the flag dings are kinda unfair. I'm pretty sure that they aren't related to the ?time at all- just a continual 2 minute timer. It would be cool (although probably impossible) if the 2 minute timer reset every time the flag went to the other team. That way, you would get a reward for holding the flag for 2 minutes, not just maybe getting a random 200 points. The only way to do that though, would probably be to make the bot itself give the points every 2 minutes, instead of the bell doing it.

I personally like the idea of having a set 30 minute game in which the winner is the team that holds the flag for the most amount of time. So lets say Team 1 holds it for 17 min while Team 2 holds it for 13 min ... thus Team 1 wins w/a +4 min margin. The good thing about this is that it is basically a race to 15 min. However, it keeps every game to a set 30 min. This method also seems like a better way to see "pt margins" or in this case "time margins" btwn teams bc unlike pts where you can gain a +200k pt margin in 1 game vs an easy squad, in the time system, your "time margin" per game is capped at +30 min ... assuming your team holds the flag for the entire game.
This also discourages teams from hiding bc it's based on the amount of time a team holds the flag. Then there's no pt to hiding if you're gonna lose flag time.
To me, the idea of time based basing also reinforces the idea of HOLDING the flag, not just making flag touches. You might see a team making flag touches at the dings ... but not holding the flag for the majority of the game. Should they really be gaining the ding pts even thought they're only touching the flag at the dings and not holding the flag throughout the game? I know it's kinda stupid issue, but yeah, I think time based basing is more about the team while pts basing emphasizes more on the individual performance.Last edited by Sufficient; 02-07-2004, 02:42 PM.

But u also use point differential as a tie breaker and such. And Making everyone requalify through TWD was supose to make the league more competative, that was everyone's arguement why we have to requalify. So games should be closer now. And There should be a rule that HIding to Win is illegal. A ref can see when someone isnt fighting or attacking. I can see it they should be able to also. I think the 30 minute basing game is a nice traditional rule, keep it. And even if 4 spider isnt decided yet, we are still forced to use a diff ship in TWBD games.

4 spider limit isn't decided yet. Also, theres atleast 3 or 4 games each season where a team hides at the end to win. I think this is a problem. Also, this makes games where blowouts happen end more quickly and games where it is close play alittle longer. Seems like a fun alternative to a standard game.

Why not keep basing how it is? there are bigger problems then point race and blah blah. I think the 30 minute game timer is fine, team with most points win. It usualy happens that the best team wins this way. I dont think u need to change it for TWL. A map change and getting the matchbot's done so we can start this shiz is way more important then doin race and such. Keep it the same, u already put 4 spider limit in which is stupid, dont make to many stupid changes this season.

to answer a few of your questions:
Yes we want to try it and see if it has a popular opinion, then use it for twl. There are two options we are considering when it comes to basing.1)points race. 2)time based-which means a team has to hold the flag for a total of 20 minutes or any preset of time. This would be done with a bot and isn't based on flag dings.
I don't think the second one should even be an option till two seasons from now but could be used and seen if liked as soon as a programmer does it. As for the option: What we have in go base is just temporary to test. The reason there is no ear warp is because the bot is from roboking. I'll talk to dock about fixing it today. Thanks

Dont put it in TWLB, thats stupid, TImed games are way better then having a race to a set #. i dont realy have a reason to explain it, bu ti just think its stupid. If u want to do it in .?go base go for it but not TWBD/TWLB :X
Another thing, just being curouis, shouldnt u be worrying about TWD/TWL problems instead of .?go base? :X
