maybe a cap needs to be put into twd?
or maybe something like a game limit has to be put into twd? only 3 games per league count a day?
you could still play after, but they wouldn't count? beats me
right now grapevine has like 40 people because we can. i think we have like 28 who are actually active. blame twd._o_2NASRALLAH

Here is an idea! How about the Captains of every squad that has been here over 6 months vote Yes or no for a roster limit. After that is decided, providing a roster limit is voted yes, we could again vote on the limits that may be set. I am sure most of you here will down talk this idea. But face it, we can sit here and type 1,000 usless posts or take action. Just my 2cents.
I also want to add a topic related to the TWL roster lock. I notice that every year when twl is near squads tend to have a stable roster, these players on each squad play and earn their squads position in twl. Out of the blue we have people hopping squads durring TWL itself. I think this is rather upseting to the compition of TWL. Key players leaving a squad can easily bring a squad from 5th place to 12th place (example). Then we have a, once good, squad holding a spot, and playing like crap, in twl! If you ask me, roster limits aren't ruining TWL but squad hopping durring TWL is! I ask that a roster lock at the beginning of the season be put into effect.
PS: I already know I can't spell so shut up! :PSpacely> kidnapper!!! we have you surrounded!! put down the candy and let the lil boy go

why is it retarded?
squads that have 80 players should be able to play bottom tier squads 24/7 and, thus, qualify for a league where roster limits apply?
it is so stupid to use twd as a qualification for twl when they don't even have the same map settings or rules.Philos> I both hate you and like you more than anyone in this game randedl

Squads would think twice before recruiting new talent if there was a roster limit? Yeah, we might not have recruited Jason. Anyone want him to start for your TWLB team?
If you made a roster limit of 30 people, there's not a single person that pallies would remove that would go on to start in TWL for some other squad. You'd end up with guys like Samu and Mayo Inc (much love mayo, but you're not very good). And most likely everyone that we removed from TWL would stay in the squad, and just not play TWL. I don't know other squads situations, but I'm betting it's much the same. So that argument is kinda stupid.
I think the other argument was that people join a squad just to win, even if they can't play? That might be true to a certain extent, but those are guys that just want to cheer for the team and probably aren't very good. Those aren't guys that are starter quality.
Watch Anti-scrub. sure, they have 40 people now, but they just picked up a bunch of new people, they'll filter out when the season draws near.
Just let the captains run their own team. supply and demand will balance it naturally. Truth is, we have some guys on our team that suck, and we like them, and they really do play a role for us. Pallies woudlnt' be pallies without the richard creagers, the mayo incs.http://www.trenchwars.org/forums/showthread.php?t=15100 - Gallileo's racist thread

lol exactly... when it comes down to it, it doesnt matter how big roster sizes are... a team can only put out 5 in an LD/LJ and 8 for LB same as everyone else.
bitching because good players would rather go to top squads rather than yours isn't gonna make a new rule in which roster limits are implemented and make those good players be forced to go to your squad....

They would have to go somewhere awesome. If the top squads are full bc the roster says so then they'd have to go down the list, they'd eventualy join a squad and it could mean having 4 competative teams for the title instead of 3, and so on.
BZ: its true, some squads like u could remove a few ppl yes, but then what happens when a "star" comes up and asks to join pallies, u can say "no we are full" or accept him and have to take someone else off the roster. Pallies isnt a good example bc they arent 100% about winning/losing, but a squad who is it would help out. And those players like Mayo for example mite not be a star player for Pallies, but for a squad like Melee he mite step in and start every TWL game. Not all squads are on pallies level of skill. U guys got the benifit of having a good 15ish guys who can play any league, not all squads got that.
About what rand is saying, thats just another good point to limiting the rosters. U got squads who have huge rosters and play about 20 TWD games a day and make TWL on that, or come close to it. If u play 20 games vs "ez" squads and make 5 points a game thats as many points as playing a few vs the top squads. Like i siad tho, i really dont care if we do or dont have a roster limit, i'd like to see one so it is more competative, but rite now i really dont care either way._o_2NASRALLAH

so why not just let the inactive guys stay on the roster... as i said earlier, when it comes down to it, you still only get 8 guys per squad in LB, 5 in LD/LJ playing each match for each squad.... who's on their bench is their business....

heh we've got 15 guys on our roster that play less than once a month. We could drop them and not affect anything. A fair amount of guys on our roster don't expect to play any twl anyway so if we removed them from twl roster they wouldn't join another squad to play twl, they wouldn't care about being removed because they weren't going to play twl anyway.Last edited by Sleepy Weasel; 10-12-2004, 11:50 PM.

to the pallies guys, that's all true and fair. my squad is in the same situation.
but if you guys are at all like me, you wouldn't really care if they are on the roster to begin with.
if they aren't playing anyways, why do they NEED to be on the roster? if i had to, the last seen 10 days ago guys would be gone. i'm actually just too lazy to hit <remove> and leave them a ?message.
further, i can honestly say i'd be more stingy about recruiting mid-tier players if there was a limit.
there are guys i love on my squad (hi buja, hi rob) and they would be there no matter what. if that means that some 400 rating elim player goes to dragonguard, then that's what would happen.
and i just want to reiterate how large rosters take advantage of the twd system.Last edited by Randedl; 10-13-2004, 12:17 AM.Philos> I both hate you and like you more than anyone in this game randedl

Originally posted by KimHow can roster limits be 'retarded', then you later claim that they also need to be re-looked at, re-evaluated, and perhaps tightened as you mentioned? You're tripping over your own feet.
because TWL and TWD are not the same. At least my squad, Incuria, plays TWD whenever we happen to have neough players online. We rarely schedule games. So to have enough online, we need many players.
TWL on the other hand has games that are scheduled a week in advance. A squad with less than 15 should easily be able to have enuogh attendance at it's games.
