5 spiders is the best way to win traditionally.

but if a team actually sits down with their starters and practices and gets disciplined on positioning with special ships and how to use them, they would be better than 5 spids.

using 5 spiders doesnt require much thought, its pretty much cut n paste basing. but you can incorporate lancs wbs or javs into basing, it just cant be played like "hey attach to the terrier and go kill stuff". there needs to be strategy behind it.

I agree as well.... the reason special ship basing hasn't been successful as of yet is because of that "i'll just shoot stuff" mentality. If the team is working together to incorporate that special ship into the strategy it can be extremely effective.

5 spiders is the easiest way to go, there will be hardly any dynamics in the game, but your team is more dynamic. If one player can't make it, or doesn't have his day, you still have a big pool of the same kind of players to fill in.

If you play with specials, there will probably one player per special that will make it work. It's harder to adapt to different special styles, and your spider will have to work a little faster. When one of your specials doesn't make it, do you still play with specials? It's probably not a very smart move.
