Umm. This doesn't quite follow for me. So you're saying the spirit behind the rule is to protect not just the players playing the TWL game from spamming, but the entire squad?

As I said, it needs to be worked on in the off season. But the way the rule is written currently there is very little to work with in regards to changes of the rule to cover every basis. If all else fails, we would have to fall back to standard TW zone rules.

exactly, and as a captain of a TWL squad u need to take into consideration that he SHOULD know the rules and if not he needs to suffer the consequences anyways cuz AS a captain u should know them.

I get the new rule, but it was applied arbitrarily and in a way that really doesn't protect anyone from anything.

Spamming is stupid, and your an asshat to do it, everyone agrees on this fact.

The rule was put in place to protect people who were playing from being spammed and thus having to type ?ignore which could result in death. Izor was in spec, he wasn't going to die.

Is spamming a player whose on the squad's !myfreq but didn't participate actually in the game illegal in the TWL sense?

I may be mistaken, and I'll go consult the rules right now, but I'm pretty sure that the ban calls for a warning/silence first to which dwopple contends he never received and was banned 20 minutes after the fact.

So in short: banning him does nothing but make TWL rules look like a joke; anyone read pascone's most recent "joke" appeal?

If the attending game Referee feels abuse or harassment is being given to anyone involved in the game by a player who is not playing in the game, that player will be silenced. Proof of the harassment must be provided to the Referee or League Operators within 5 minutes of the completion of the match, by method of a screenshot. For further validity, the spammer must be reported to staff via ?cheater.

1.6 or whatever goes on to say that they'll be banned after they're silenced whether or not they refrain from spamming, so I guess the ban in that sense is justified.

The question is what does "anyone involved in the game" entail? I would contend that it means someone who is NOT IN SPEC because the rule continues "by a player who is not playing in the game."

Therefore, because of the wording, it's clear that in order to be considered involved in the game, you actually have to be IN THE GAME.

Dwopple a player who has played for years has spammed someone during a twl match. Seriously you cant claim izor wasnt involved in twl. Usually while playing dds, they will have a coorder and a death coorder. To say he wasnt supporting his squad this way is ignorant because only his squad would know.

Everyone knows twl is the highest bit of competition in the zone, everyone knows spamming is looked down upon. Honestly i expected a thread like this from thunder, not pirates. Man up to your punishment and let is serve as an example to anyone else who spams in the future.

If dwopple had spammed me, for instance, because I was sitting in the arena, would he still have been banned? It's the same situation.

If sufficient evidence is provided according to rule 1.05, any abuse of the League Conduct Rules during a match will result in a:
I) A Trench Wars ban from the zone (8 days total) if the offender is on a TWL squad in order to cover at least 1 Round of TWL. Note: This rule also applies to a player who spams under an alias and is found to be on a TWL squad.

He was supposed to be silenced, yes. However the actual punishment was done in accordance with the rules. It was supposed to be a silence AND a ban. Even had he been silenced, the ban would still have happened.

Well, this is the correct call for the greater community. It is supposed to cover everyone who is receiving spam. We all agree spamming is stupid. We have attempted to curtail this by punishing those who threaten to subvert the rules of conduct by any means. We as TWL ops, are here to read the rules and make the best decision for the league when there is an issue. In this case, the wording of the rules was, I think we all agree, poorly done. But we have made our 'clarification' for the rest of this season. You may not like it, but that is the way it is going to have to stay. This will be brought up at our next TWL meeting at the end of the year.
