Hey and welcome to TWLB Week 2's Hot or Not thread, the powers that be have officially given me the go-ahead to tell you about the exciting match up's we had today. The two basing titans Dice and Penetrate went head-to-head, two major and completely insignificant upsets occurred, and no bot malfunctions made it a great day for trench wars basing. God damn I'm a nerd. Without further ado, let's get right to the main event, reigning 2-time TWLB champions Penetrate versus the 2-time golden globe nominee for best acting for their appearance in the first round epic loss against spastic... Dice!
So this game was intense. And we all knew it would be, but a few of us remembered that these games usually come down to who shows up 85% of the time, and this was no exception. The first half of the game was dominated by Penetrate. Dice spent the first flag room battle pinned down in the corner. Their reps were not well-timed, their spiders floundered, and Cape went into the match with levi 501's and came out with a pair of leather chaps that all gay dudes wear with the hole in the butt. Essentially, something needed to be done, and mm89 had to make that hard decision of possibly hurting a veteran's pride and sub him out or allow the carnage to continue. As the clock hit the 10:00 mark for Penetrate, mm pulled the trigger and subbed out Cig Smoke for Dwopple and Chief Utsav for Cape.
As Dice quickly got into the cram and cleared the fr the spec chat became eerily silent, because cig and cape were in it and everyone was talking shit about them all game cuz they were really sucking. Long story short, pene's sharks were not as good as a2m and dwopple today, and cintra and the penetrate spiders got man-handled because of it. Or was it Pene's spiders who were a bit campy, forcing their sharks to rep a little too fast and create openings for Dice's spiders to attack. Or it may have been Cintra who mistimed his pushes and oh who gives a shit they lost okay. Huge come back by Dice to control the cram and a few quick fr battles and win it 15:00 - 10:17. I caught mm89 on his way to the hair dresser after the match and he had this to share:
Vatican As> hey quick interview for hot or not ready?
megaman89> ok
Vatican As> you put in dwop for cig will you play dwop in future?
megaman89> cig had 2 be subbed due to lag but having an agressive sharked def helped us (cig a2m are both pretty passive)
Vatican As> and finally you subed in chief for cape do u think that helped turn game around
megaman89> yeah 100% cape was emo be4 the game started and that carried over into his terring
Vatican As> nice game was fun to watch, anything else help turn agme around or was it the 2 subs that did it
megaman89> what turned the game around was that we learned how to cram again
Vatican As> and cintra forgot
megaman89> lolz
Hot: mm89 for making that sub
Not: mm89 for putting in cig and cape
Well I was right about Dice beating Penetrate but I was wrong about the next 2 match-ups which I consider to be upsets though the winning teams might disagree. First of all we have MOTHER FUCKING PALADEN BEATING HIT HOOOOOOly shit Hit. Paladen was supposed to lose every game and get less than 15 minutes throughout the course of the season so we could all acknowledge that we were assholes to them but at least be like hey, you did suck though right? But now look at us with egg on our faces and feet in our mouths and eggy feet essentially. And it wasn't even that close, they controlled it. Paladen, with 8 players in a basing match, duh, winning. Okay, our bad Paladen, that's what you want to hear isn't it. We misjudged you. Or was it Hit we misjudged?
It was difficult to watch them. Domi was wasted in Jav, switch him to shark or terr or spider, he was 28-12 when you switched him to jav. Without naming names, Sika, skatarius, you camp too much and Heisman you smell like doo doo. Paladen's pick up of half-way decent basers Rage Ritual and Duclover and some others I don't know have made them into an actual basing squad in 2011 bravo! Win another game and I'll stop calling you half-way decent; the final score was 15:00 - 8:18.
Hot: Paladen spids Frank the Tank, producer, and Tomas. I don't know who any of you are.
Not: Heisman or whoever for not putting more whip into memorial day camp x2 Sika and lost at sea jav domi.
The next upset came when Anti-Scrub beat Spastic 15:00 - 7:32. After Spastic beat Dice but not really last week I bet everyone was moving them up in the world and would be surprised to see them lose to one of the nobody squads that we all sort of wondered if they even belonged in existence let alone TWLB (harsh?) and now look at them. Looking at the predictions on our often-used TWL website it's easy to see that indeed A-S was the underdog with meddi guessing Spastic will win 65:89 to negative 3:23, and Rucci taking the time out of his busy day to let us all know that Spastic will have a time of "doesn't" and A-S will finish with "matter." Thank you Rucci, your corrupted taint has spread throughout the matrix of the TW community.
So what happened to Spastic? Like I said before who could show up made a difference. Spastic had to use one of their best spids Rise_against in terr. Right there you are losing 25% of your optimal starting line. A-S had all of their starters on the other hand, and their line, if you're in the right mood, can appear to be pretty good. They were in complete control throughout the game in fact, the spids were always backing each other up above and below the flag, downfall and ephemeral were working much better together than Spastics sharks who always seemed rushed. You can usually tell who is winning if you see one squad taking their time and controlling the flow of the battle and that was noticeable.
Hot: Brookus for keeping hope alive and making good recruits in order to sustain a squad where others have not. Looking at you Disoblige.
Not: Schope, Humid, and their friend Smokey the Bear for camping while not stopping forest fires.
The next game was played by Thunder and Sage, and I had to go to Home Depot to pick up mulch and shrubbery so I missed it, but a quick look at the score board shows us that Thunder didn't have their top shark Mythril and they had to use Saetep. Sage didn't seem to have their best line either (if you are one of the 8 players who started for sage today and you are not wondering if I am clandestinely disrespecting you at this point then you need to widen your gaze and get your head in the game), so this match ended pretty much way it was supposed to with Sage beating Thunder 15:00 - 9:39. I did get a chance to talk to PH who watched the game and conducted the following interview:
1:Vatican Assassin> hey did any of you watch thunder / sage?
1:sweater> it sucked
Hot: Glavitik, you are a big star and you are on top of the world
Not: m_m god, you let glav get 30 more kills than you, to think I could have spent all that time trying to recruit glavitik instead of you
Most of his interviews go this way, I suspect he has this response macro'd. The last game to report on was by far the least exciting--for me most of all because I had to play in it--with Pandora beating Disoblige 15:00 - 4:16. Disoblige are good people and even I'm getting tired of hearing myself talk shit so let's just say that this withering husk of it's former self sure-to-be-last-place squad is full of fun-loving euro's whose diabolical plan is to have more fun than you by losing to you so badly that you get bored--it worked against Germany.
Hot: Doesn't
Not: Matter
Finally let's get to the Predictions. No really close games (worth watching) next week, and three games involving most likely semi-finalists playing against likely contenders. This is a week to make a good showing for A-S, Thunder or Spastic if they want to get into playoffs, and a week for Pandora, Sage or Penetrate to fuck up and then hopefully have grounds for appeal.
Sage (2-0) vs. Anti-Scrub (1-1): Sage is better than Spastic, but this game, like the thunder / Pandora game, will be somewhat close.
Spastic (0-1) vs. Penetrate (1-1) : Maybe if this week didn't happen we might consider the possibility of a Spastic win, but not after losing to A-S son.
Thunder (1-1) vs. Pandora (2-0) : Gonna be one of those games that is sort of close but not really? Unless some critical players can't play.
Dice(1-0) vs. Paladen (1-1) : good job Paladen, next week you get to work on the skill of getting your ass beat
Hit (0-2) vs. Disoblige (0-2): 9th vs. 10th best teams?
