TWLB Playoffs -- Quarter-Finals
With (1) Dice and (2) Penetrate receiving a bye into the Semis, the week's action saw (3) Sage take on the not-so-eponymous (6) Anti-Scrub, while (4) Pandora hoped for a repeat of their narrow regular-season victory over (5) Thunder.
(4) Pandora vs. (5) Thunder
Game of the Week
8:33 - 20:00
The two most inactive basing squads in Trench Wars faced off, actually leading many spectators to wonder who some of the Pandora players in the game actually were because they'd never seen them before. Kevin Durant/Ease dropped a ridiculous 143 kills and 5 Teks to lead Thunder to a convincing routing of the slightly-favored Pandora.
All five of Thunder's spiders broke 100 kills, while only three of Pandora's cracked the threshhold, with Renzi/Zeebu actually going negative. The real story, however, was Tim's terring (or lack thereof). Thirteen deaths (to Raples two), questionable dives for the flag without protection, and a seeming inability to dodge led many to speculate that Tim simply played for fun, and didn't really give a shit about TWL (while Cape took the opportunity let everyone know Tim is the worst terr in the history of everything ad-nauseum.)
Coupled with dominant sharking from Hulk and Mythril, Thunder took control of the game early and never let go. While some thought Thunder might win, few expected such a complete and utter dismantling of the 3-time Finalist -- much less to a 3-league squad to whom basing seems a mere afterthought -- leading the once-proud Pandora to be literally dismantled, dissolving mere hours after the loss.
(5) Thunder will play David to (1) Dice's Goliath as they try to take down the league's only undefeated squad, although more in the Sarah Palin "The Undefeated" than actually undefeated (as Spastic would attest -- had they not dissolved after equaling Paladen' win-count in LB).

Was the outcome of this game foreshadowed? The Literati out there are no-doubt aware that Zeus, Lord of Thunder, ordered the creation of Pandora in Greek Mythology, while bad action movie fans will know the line "I made you, and I can unmake you!" all too well.

Absentee captain Spikey faced off against conspicuously absent Brookus, the former leading Sage to a resounding win over the latter's once-vaunted Anti-Scrub with an impressive 7 Teks. Also leading the charge were Diakka and dreamwin with game-high 93 and 94 kills, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mattey made his triumphant return to TWL action after a months-long absence, nary missing a beat while recording a 3.1 RPD. The real story everyone was following, however, was Zizu weaving and dancing around the battlefield with the nimbleness of a ballerina, onlookers wondering whether or not he could maintain the ace. At 19:52 or thereabouts, when victory seemed assured, Zizu, at 51-0, somehow managed to die (I wasn't paying attention), possibly to AFKness, although no one I asked could vouch to having witnessed it. Flashes of Quincy Babe Ruth's called shot, perhaps?
The entire game was a rather droll affair, very stuffy and british-like, and nothing (save Zizu's untimely death) surprising happened, the result matching the predictions. Spikey was just all over the place in warbird making ridiculous shots, and Sage's spiders outkilled A-S by over 100, despite Omega Red and Solacer's valiant efforts.
Props to Anti-Scrub for scrapping it out all season, hopefully they stick together and stay active. (3) Sage goes on to play (2) Penetrate next week.
