TWL Rule Changes

I think the issue here is a lack of clear understanding of what TWL is supposed to be (just as Ardour stated). TWL is supposed to be the pinnacle of TW, it’s purpose never has been to somehow increase TW population except perhaps by a distant abstraction. But Aura says, “This list was compiled from changes that the community recommended.” Taking suggestions from the player base is not a good idea, the suggestions are coming from people who may or may not have their own agendas or have any idea what TWL is or isn’t supposed to be about. A classic case of confusing ‘knowledge’ with ‘wisdom’. Just because a player may be game knowledgeable does not mean that they are also wise and understand the higher level objectives of a league.

When running a league you should always start with the objective of the league as your primary focus and should be the context of every decision. In this case and quoting from the TWL web site, “It brings the most skilled players to the same arena in order to battle it out for victory and gain the esteem from all players as the best.” And also “Trench Wars Leagues is the premier competitive league in Trench Wars. It is designed for serious squads which are interested in competing against the best in the zone.” How does this fit with watering it down with the inclusion of a ‘amateur league’?

What has happened is that this has been dropped and exchanged for ‘good ideas’ that appear to be meant to increase TW population or are ‘good for the zone’. Simply put, the very purpose of TWL is being changed. And this is due to not understanding how to take a top down approach to the league but rather from the ground up with input from players. IMO not the way to run the league. If the desire is to completely rip up TWL and change what it is supposed to be about, then be up-front about it and change the TWL web site to say, ‘we are trying to be all things to all people’.

The purpose is not to water it down it is to keep your little league going. Just like real life people age in sports and new people come in to take their place. It is selfish to only let 20 ppl out of 150-400 (years ago) play leagues that they feel mean something. If their is no league for amateurs then noone will get interested and eventually even the so called pros will move on to other things non continuum. Your comment is incorrect. First it is not 'my little league', I don’t think that I even played in it last year. I am not some elite vet as anyone will tell you. And your 'in real life' analogy makes no sense, every sport has professional leagues that an average players cannot possibly ever participate in. TWL clearly and implicitly states that its purpose is to be an elite league, obviously you missed this since it was the primary point of my post.
If players don’t like the elitist nature of TWL they don’t have to participate. I certainly don’t blame anyone for not wanting to be nothing more than target practice for egotistical arrogant dicks who have no consideration for anyone but themselves. But if you don’t like it get better and go own them or go read a book.
My original point stands, if the current TWL mods want to change the objective of the league than change the web site to say ‘we just want everyone to have some fun’. Because in way is some amateur league every going to be described as “gain the esteem from all players as the best” or be the “the premier league in Trench Wars” with the idea of adding an amateur league.

TIL only 20 people play in twl, guess these new roster limits are actually too high!

Somehow twl has survived for over 10 years without an amateur league. You know what the newbs filling up arenas purpose in playing is? To get good enough to be in TWL. 10 squads get into TWLD and TWLJ, there are fewer players now than ever before so it should be that much easier to get into TWL. Right now there are only 11 squads on TWDD ladder and 14 on TWJD ladder. That leaves 1 squad out of TWL for LD, and 4 for LJ. Am i missing something here?

dunno if this is feasible but how about running each league at separate times. Lets say having lj occur for two months and finish, then a month to qualify for ld and around two months to play that and repeat for lb. twl roster caps of about 10-15, and no cap for twd so squads can continue to play other leagues. could potentially get 14-16 squads for each league, and if skill levels are to different could have 8 for twl and 8 for that amateur league shit. just an idea

I actually like wage's idea. Leave the past behind (altho it was good times) and just focus on the times ahead. Make 3 separate leagues, one after the other, and that way more squads gonna compete for each league. Plus, the whole league gonna take up almost 3/4 of the year. pz
