well it's definitely not my idea. i believe someone posted it and said it's what some other zone's league uses as their standard.

basically, you set 2 different roster locks.

    1) the first one freezes squadleaves. once that roster date hits, no one can leave their squad's roster. however, squads can still recruit players who aren't on any rosters.

    2) the second freezes recruiting. that's when the rosters are set in stone for the rest of the season.

there's several good things about splitting the lock up. first, it prevents teams from being stuck in a shitty condition if they lose alot of people right around the roster lock because there's still a whole week of recruiting time to fill their roster with free agents/newbies. second, you have time to identify your needs and fill the holes in your squad without having to worry about rethinking your plans in case anyone left your squad. third, and this could be both good and bad.... but players can hold out to see how rosters look before choosing to apply for a team. it's pretty cut and dry, although it might increase the amount of attempted double-squadders in the league... fortunately that would be solved with the ideas proposed in the other thread.

Now, I'm playing devil's advocate here, but how does part two solve problems such as the one Crips had? Follow me, here:

For the sake of simplicity, I'll use a ficticious squad... let's call them **PoontanG**. (The kids love their special characters these days!) **PoontanG** is a squad comprised of 15 people (random elim'ers, pubbers, and even a few old jaded "vets").

Okay, say in week 5 (at squadleave lock), six people leave **PoontanG**. Now, before week 6 is up, **PoontanG** recruits 8 new people from pub to make up for the people they've lost. No problems here.

Now, around the end of week 7, 6 of the 8 new pubbers decide that they're through with **PoontanG** (being the one-trick pony show that it is), and leave the squad to form a new TWD squad with two of the original **PoontanG** members.

At this point, **PoontanG** is still horribly mangled, and at the same kind of state Crips was in at the current roster lock.

Now, I know it's unlikely that someone would leave a TWL squad to start their own TWD squad, but it could happen. I thought it was unlikely that the people that were on Crips would jump ship, but it did happen. See what I'm saying?

premier uses the roster lock rule gerbz stated and it has worked just fine for several seasons now .... by week 3 no1 can change squads , u can however leave to go squadless ... and untill week 5 any1 who wasnt on a roster yet can join a league squad.... after that everything is locked

and they have a far longer season than we do i dont see how it can have any problems , they have 3 preseason rounds , 3 post season rounds and 6 playoff rounds , we have about half the lenght .... i dont understand people like cig smoke ....

This is finally a solution that makes sense to me instead of "ROSTER LOCK IS STUPID!".

            Question:

If you let people join squads until say round 6, but no one can leave after round 5... what's to stop someone from double squadding or whatever? Making a new name and joining.

There's no way we're going to catch everyone that does that, be realistic. This solution will just make it so that people who aren't honest will get an extra week to squadhop, while people who are honest will get screwed.

it works on premier , i dont know how they do it , but it works , they all know each others there tho and when some1 changes names it is noticeable who it is ...

just ask how they enforce it

Use a random week for the roster lock. Have Myth program a bot to randomly say 'K TIME FOR A ROSTER LOCK' right after a weekend of matches (that way the ops won't know when it is either). l0lz, that would solve everything
                'vet' is the new 'newb'.
                sit ez vet, sit.

well, i'm not too adept at programming.... but given the current accomplishments i've seen you guys pull off as far as bots integrating with website data, i don't see why it wouldn't be possible to make an automated system that handles these issues.

would it be feasible to let captains manage their roster (adds/drops) through a bot? then when captains attempted to add a player to their roster, the bot would automatically check the alias data (*info or whatever cool command you guys use these days) to determine if the player is legit. if the player is found to have an alias on another roster, the add request would be denied. hell, i'm sure you guys could make this work even through the website. tw is blessed with a very talented programming crew.

it would kill two birds with one stone and take things a few steps closer to having a completely automated league.

i'll answer the cripples part of the question first, then handle the hypothetical situation:

in the case of the cripples, it was more like a bad episode of "When Ego's Collide" as opposed to a real captainship issue. to cut a long story short, there were a few recruits who other people didn't like... and two sides were formed. both sides left because they thought the other side would win. so basically, the entire ordeal backfired.... hence why a lot of the shipjumpers came back a few weeks later and rejoined our TWD roster. in fact, our squad is led by one of the guys who left and came back (Cig Smoke) and he's been instrumental in keeping the squad alive through the unfortuante incident and onward past our roster than was stifled by the roster lock. and the whole time he's been working his ass off for us, he hasn't gotten to play in a single league game because of said roster lock. that's pretty hardcore dedicated on his part.

anyways, on to the hypothetical situation. the idea proposed isn't meant to perform miracles. if a squad has horrible leadership or squadmates who constantly fight, no amount of rules concessions are going to prevent that. what the ideas do offer, though, is a way to minimize the window of abuse for teamhopping. mass amounts of greedy players can no longer kill or maim a squad's chances at survival because those squads have a chance to recuperate. and if a squad still can't survive after the extra week of recruiting time, that squad doesn't really belong in the TWL anyways.

btw sry pallies i didnt mean to come out and attack u like that if thats what it sounded like i was mearly being sarcastic..but u guys usualy are the only ones really fighting for roster lock ...im not implying that i'd rather have everyone jumping squads left and rite but the fact remains squads like Camisade and even value sorta could be revived and (camisade) could still be in TWL if the roster lock wasnt there...maybe there is a way where u can make it that dieing squads can recruit a guy or 2 a week (in camisade)'s case and such..not squads like elusive/light/rampage and such who are established and dont need the extra guy

btw gerbil's idea is good and will help w/ last minute leaving (cripz case), but also dont solve the fact taht other ppl just cant stay in a squad for a whole season and will join others even when they cant play that season..but i agree it prolly wont be a mass leaving.

I just don't understand why squadhoppers deserve to play in leagues. It's one thing to change squads after the end of a season, but if a guy plays for one squad for 8 games of a season, and then leaves the second he gets invited to a better squad for the last two games, are you really saying that he deserve any sort of success? It seems like it really destroys the entire point of squads if rules are changed to accomodate people that do that.
