when I was young...everyone hated the french/germans mostly down to they were better at football than us. However as I grew up and visited France more often I realised what a nice country it actually is and how much more courteous the people are there than in London.

It was in our backyard, but it was an aggression on a sovereign country which has been recognized as such by whole world at the start.
Now, not only that, but the so called "civil war" was not at all civil, but it was planned attack by army of one country (which was like 4th strongest in Europe at that time) on another. In their plotting they have systematically removed everyone on higher places that did not share their vision and replaced them with their own people. So when war finally came on people that would not believe such evil could dwell in their homes, basically, the whole army (with their superior weaponry and heavy artillery and tanks) was under control of aggressors and it took about year or two before Bosnian army got organised properly and somewhat armed.
Also, the goals of aggressors were not just to take over some little country no one cared about, but it was to remove every trace of largest (by very small margin tho) of the ethinc groups living in that region, be it by destroying priceless 500 years old monuments and buildings, changing names of streets or raping and killing innocent people whose only "wrong doing" was that they were of a certain religion. GENOCIDE. That's the word for it, and no matter how insignificant a country is to rest of the world, genocide is not something that should be allowed to happen (mainly only ones helping were countries from Middle East).
Oh, we did have EU and SFOR and any other forces there, but those were told to just observe and not do shit, and they themselves did terrible crimes, including even British and Canadian commanders that would have bosnian women locked in the houses with their children taken as hostages so they could abuse them sexually under periods of several weeks.
And it's not there where the bitterness lies, because our little country has suffered throughout the centuries, and our people are very proud and brave and even forgiving, and they've always came out with their heads held high. So, after 2-3 years of mindless killing, raping and murdering of women and children, people in the capital being under siege, countless forced to leave their homes, and the world just watching, those little proud people said: fuck it, we're gonna do this on our own, and started to do so. They liberated region after region (outnumbered and underfed and poorly armed) untill they came 2 miles from walls of city that aggressors had as their capital, freedom within reach, when orders came:
-Americans said we must not enter and take the city, but we must turn back or they will, in cooperation with rest of world, destroy us.

You see, Europe and US were watching slaughter take place, and even it was their duty to stop genocide from taking place, they did nothing, but when the people turned the tide of war, they said:
-Wait a minute now, if they retake all their cities back, they will probably revenge their suffering in last few years (being that they descend from wild, crazy and bloodthirsty tribes) by bloodbath this world hasn't seen yet, and they will force all the refugees that Croatia forced out of their province Knin (100.000 in numbers) plus all the people that lived there, into Serbia. And then Serbia will openly attack this independant country and we won't be able to mask it by bureaucracy and call it "civil war" but we'll have to step in, and then Russia might come to defend their people and everyone will get involved....fuck that, too much work: tell those Bosnians to stop attacking, we'll divide their country in to 3 pieces, tell them to forget about murders and rapes, it's a big world, takes a little time before everything gets going, tell them that they're free now and should enjoy it, tell them we'll hook them up with MTV.

US and Europe did not save us, and they didn't allow us to save ourselves.

the point i am making is that the US is not solely to blame as you had stated or implied earlier. The question is why wasn't there a larger outcry to stop it when the genocide was going on? Why wasn't there a push to step in and police, since thats what the stupid UN is supposed to be there for. Europe should have been howling mad that this was happening right next to them. It was a horrible show of apathy.

In Vietnam the US basically used the entire north chunk of the country as a weapons testing range. You can look far enough back into history and find shit on anyone. Retributional attack against Afghanistan, because they refuse to turn over the people responsible for said attack: World still supports the US "Yay America, go get those bastards."

Bush says Saddam is in league with terrorists: World says "uhh.. what?"

Bush demands weapons inspectors search for proof: Iraq says "Ok"

Weapons Inspectors say they need more time, because as of yet nothing is to be found: Bush says "fuck no" World says "uhh.. wait a minute"

Bush says we'll go to war alone: World says "wtf?"

Bush GOES to war and manages to drag Britain with it: The rest of the world is outraged about the US, and quite frankly seems to feel that Blair must be kinda dumb.

I'm an American, and what I have to say about Canada in this respect is:
Don't forget, they had/have troops too in Afghanistan, where the people that actually ATTACKED us are, and where they've had their first war casualties since oh.. world war fucking TWO.. why? FOR US.

When you've got 64 percent of French-Canadian teenagers saying America's a force for evil, you've got a problem in the media and education up there. We have a balanced media here. You don't. You won't take the Fox News Channel, because your government is afraid of it.

First of all, how was the question phrased? What were the choices? What context was this poll taken in? Who did the poll? Where did you get this information?

In many polls, due to the lack of choices or the way it is done or the time it is done can have misleading results. If the question was "Is America a force for evil in the world?" and this question was posed just as America ignored the UN and attacked Iraq anyway for their own purposes, and there were no choices that said 'no they are not a force for evil, but yes they do some bad things' maybe the poll would have been different.

For people answering that poll they may think by saying 'no' then they are basically agreeing that the Iraqi war was justified.

For a similar comparison, you have George Bush's popularity rating skyrocketing to 80-90% during the opening of the Afganistan war. Did this mean that 80-90% of Americans really did think Bush was that great a president, and everything that he did was so splendid? Or did people think that saying no would be unpatrotic at a time of war? Even the US media (in fact CNN) made these cautions when those polls were conducted at that time.

Polls aren't everything. Canada isn't exactly going around putting sanctions on the US and making UN resolutions saying that America is evil. The results of some poll you heard about on the cnet review forums conducted at some mysterious time doesn't say absolutely everything.

Second of all, you say that Canada is unbiased solely because we don't take Fox News? Well you know what, as almost all media will universally tell you, TV news is probably the worst way to obtain your news. Newspapers are MUCH less biased and report MUCH more accurately than TV news. These are in fact regular critisms that I've heard many times in the AMERICAN media itself (I'm a regular reader of the New York Times). But let's delve a little bit further.

America is supposed to have the most unbiased news in the world according to you right? Well why don't American cable networks carry Canadian news then? Why don't they carry CBC Newsworld or CTV Newsnet? I mean hell we get ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN so why don't you carry at least ONE of ours? Why? Because your so called 'proof' of the bias of Canada is ridiculous as my example as just shown. We don't need Fox News just as much as you don't need CBC Newsworld which reports on all things Canadian. But we already one-upped you by having American news and you none of ours.

Are Canadian schools preaching hate towards America? That in itself is the stupidest idea I've ever heard and I simply hope you don't actually believe this.

Before you start critizing Canada, take a look at your own country. Take a look at all the Americans themselves who are against things which America does. Take a look at how most of general population of the world (even your allies) doesn't think that America is doing the right thing and may even hate America. Ask yourself why this happened. It wasn't always so, in fact right after 9/11/2001 many people around the world were happily supporting America in open friendship. I wonder why it's all changed?
