Wouldn't some tv channel that paid 700 million for the rights to the olympics for the US focus on US athletes? Why would you not want to hit your demographic. It's like the Playboy playing the teletubbies all day.

In all consideration. I have seen lots of commentary about other athletes.

When I watch The Olympics on CBC, I get all events not only Canadian involved ones ( which they do follow every one ). Also apart from that, They've set up things to teach the watchers about Greece as a country with many things as to the history of things like The Acropolis and the gods that were worshiped in old Greece and Mount Olympos. Things Like that, but I watch the American one, and the anouncers or at least the one that's supposed to be the expert tears into the Americans who do badly and there is barely mention (at least when I'm watching, maybe bad timing etc) of any other athletes from other countries. My view about George Bush is how it is because I have been shown too much evidence to just look the other way on it. I'd hope for an American to step up and become a President that takes such a great country in a way better direction. But I fear it won't happen this term. And a lot of things can happen over the course of four years, and I don't want my life or the life of my family members in jepeordy because Bush decides to start another war, which results in catastrophic outcomes. I'm not just bashing for the sake of bashing. I seriously wonder what will happen to the world if things don't change.


Er and the playboy comment. the CBC is more like. that strip news show that playboy has. You get what you paid for and also that little extra to show you that it's not so self important.

If you have not seen it yet, see Farenheit 9/11. I had the pleasure of watching this in a different country and let me tell you, I was embarassed to be American that night, I felt like everyone was staring at me.

I hate the fact that I had to gain alot of my knowledge on Bush from Micheal Moore but it was still a good documentary.

Canada's CBC broadcasts events that don't focus on Canadian athletes, and they're State owned! That's probably an even bigger reason to stick to just looking at only their own athletes, but they still don't.

Of course, comparing the two broadcasts highlights another key difference between the US and Canada, and that's the "Melting Pot" versus "Cultural Mosaic" models of multiculturalism. With the American Melting Pot model of respecting your own heritage but remembering that America now comes first, you would expect a broadcast that focuses mainly on American athletes. With the Canadian Cultural Mosaic model where your own heritage is as important as your place in Canadian culture, people still hang on to their roots from other countries, so it makes sense to try to show a wider range of events.

I watch the olympics pretty much all the time and of course they are going to try to focus on Americans. We have a fuckton of great athletes competing in like every single event. Also, the stuff on NBC does focus a lot more on americans because it's on primetime and whatnot. msnbc, cnbc, and bravo show mostly other countries . When you say the announcers tear in the Americans who do badly im not sure what you mean, it's not like they call them pathetic losers or anything.

i think it comes down to 76 medals to 7 at the last check. With only 7 people even medaling you guys have alot more other things to focus on. Meanwhile each event where Americans medal, is shown becuase that's what the populace wants to see. I am sure they try to show other people, but it's hard with so little time to show all the highlights of the wins.

And it's obvious that Canada is much better at the winter Olympics. No big deal I don't really care. You go focus on yourself and your country, but please don't try to shove how amazing you and your morals are on other countries. Let's prevent a war this time.

lol froe, wtf? not sure where any of that came from. I know it's pompous to show fact but sorry. I think it makes a lot of sense in explaining the "huge bias" that us infidels have on showing the athletes who win and god forbid they show some back story.

If I am an ass for explaining to someone why there is so much american coverage on NBC, then so be it. They show the americans/interesting favorite for competition. Show race or summary if it's real long. Then the winners. Interview winner/interesting character. Been done for every event I have seen so far. It's only logic
