I think the reason they voted against it was because the contract was going to be signed out to Haliburton. Who happen to be under investigation for tax evasion .

It's shitty that I haven't been able to see any of these commercials, I'd love to see what kind of bullshit both sides are saying about the other.

Pax Romanus describes how the empire came to be. So when you say Pax Americana, it's supposed to symbolize their intent to become an empire in the same way the Romans did. By invading and taking over.

Washington -- Persistent election-year rumors that President Bush has a secret plan to reinstate the draft if he is re-elected led Republican House leaders Tuesday to force a vote that overwhelmingly rejected a bill to reinstate conscription.

The result, a 402-2 vote against the draft, was a foregone conclusion because Bush and Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry say they oppose reinstating the military draft, and almost no one in Congress supports the idea.
But Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., said young people would remain suspicious. "These kids may look funny, these kids may have rings in their noses, these kids may have long hair, but they know they don't believe you,'' he said.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

My point still stands. And I wouldn't be surprised if Bush implemented a draft somehow. Not saying he will, just saying I wouldn't be surprised.

                    • ROFL HE CANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He can't just pass a law because he feels like it. He needs 70% of Congress support (I'm not sure about that stat) but its something like Two-Thirds or a number around there. Now as much as you hate Bush, he only has the power to VETO, not to just make whatever law he wants possible. Plus, if you say oh he'll find a way to pay off congress, Congress is full of rich ass senators, most of which do actually care about the welfare of our nation.

If he can get the patriot act to pass, he could just as easily swing this.

The patriot act was passed with overwhelming support. Moore claims that it was actually changed really late the night before the vote, I don't know if that's true or not, but the fact is that it was political suicide to vote against it at that time. Also, nobody knew what the fuck it did. Have you ever tried to read the thing? It's not in english. there's no sentences and paragraphs, it's just a bazillion tiny amendments to current law that changes a word here and a word there and adds this line and removes that line. So it would take a team of lawyers a year and a half to figure out everything the damn thing does. They all voted for it, and now most of them seem to want to change it.

I'm afraid you are very incorrect.
A draft will be enacted at any point when there is enough wars going on to need troops, and not enough troops to fill the demand. You talk about how terribly hard it is to enact a draft? Imagine political opponents ready to jump on the line "we're losing the war in blahblah (Iran) because so and so is soft on defense and our military." How likely would it be for them to vote for a draft then? Face it boys and girls. Four more years of Bush could mean another war. Another war will almost surely mean a draft. I feel bad for you. I mean, I'm to an age now where a draft would have to be going on for several years, before it was even an issue for me. A war in Iran or North Korea, will not mean a steamroll offensive like in Iraq. Quite the opposite. How's that for a reason not to vote for him, pv?

It's their job to be able to understand it beez (ppl voting for it). I mean doesn't this act basically take away all your privacy rights because everyone is a 'potential' terrorist. What happened to freedom of speach and all that other jazz in the constitution?
