Tone, you're over-analytical of the whole situation. Whenever you want to find the answer to a question/problem the first logical step is to break it down to it's easiest form. To break life down into it's easiest form you end up with organisms that are hardly different from inorganic matter. What do both these things do? What does everything do? What is the purpose of matter in the first place? The purpose of matter, or at least a consistant property of all matter is that it somehow, someway, recycles or transfers energy, doesn't matter what type, electromagnetic, kinetic, fact is, everything transfers or recycles energy. Life is an effect of all this energy being transfered and recycled. You are asking what is the point to something that came around with no fufulling purpose but to do as everything else and transfer/recycle energy. As far as how organic matter came to be; scientists that research this question have more and more come across the theory that it came simply from inorganic matter. This may seem far fetched to some but more and more scientists (especially ones studing "superstring theory") are stating that is more likely that life would be formed than would not be formed eventually given the right pieces of inorganic matter. So to once again answer your question, it would seem that the point of life is to transfer and to recycle energy, the rest is pointless as far as the universe is concerned.

Edit: btw, I wouldn't expect too many serious responses tone, you are looking for a deep discussion on a 2d spaceship game, most of these kids haven't even learned about the food chain yet.

SO they can learn, and look at the cool links. Maybe someone into Zen can write 'zen and the art of subspace'

Wellness IS the simplest. no matter what, you as a sentient being, have a net state of pleasure and pain / happiness and suffering . for lack of a better phrase im calling this a wellness level. The purpose of matter seems pointless and impractical. no matter what kind of matter you are made up of or what matters role is or how life recycles energy, the fact remains that our existence can be reduced to this wellness level thats a net balance of wellness and pain. thats why im saying the most simplified meaning of life is hedonism and abolitionism. for sentience every other factor translates into a bottom line of wellness.

because of this, if Transhumanism is feasible and by that i mean not a world envisioned by Brave New World or 1984, but rather one of true paradise-engineering, it should become our Christ and savior. Who cares what dimension or form of existence you live in, as long as you live in a profound state of wellness.

Life is matter, it has no point but to do what matter does. Life came about accidently with no real purpose. What you've tried to answer isn't the purpose of life but instead the purpose of maintaining it. Organisms are only a form of matter, like any other, just because we have formed a self-conscious mind doesn't mean we are any different from matter.

yes im talking about the meaning of life as in goal, ultimate purpose. not meaning of life as in 'why does life exist'. The latter doesnt matter

You know it's kind of funny that people see a topic by tone and automatically assume it's more whining about the unbalances of weasels in TW, even when it isn't.

I've been thinking about alternate realities/parallel universes. If you think about it, if one of these exists, then more than that will exist. In fact, if one exists, I bet an infinite amount exists. If an infinate amount exists, then that means anything and everything that could ever happen is happening in these universes all at the same time. Ever think of something totally stupid? It already happened in some universe, happening right now, and is going to happen in another. If we could cross these barriers, tho, we could have access to infinite resources as an infinate amount of planet Earths (at the very least) exist. Blah blah blah, and so forth.

And here I was thinking that what you're talking about doesn't matter because the point is to get the entire picture. Heh, seems like opinion to me.

where you generalize life untill and reach a net state of wellness you will reach a net state of existence itself where you follow your way consequent. also just because you have a net state of something doesnt make it the meaning in life. thats so stuped. there, ur own argument with a different "meaning of life":

The answer is quite simple. Various meanings are created by thought. But every thought or action we do has in impact on our chance of reproduction. if you look at sentient life, and subtract all cognition and all things creative, you are left with a reproduction instinct. that is, a net state of hard and soft, ready and tired. The meaning of life, therefore, can be simplified to one word, reproduction ...
All alleged meanings of life have an impact on reproduction. For instance, if one says the meaning/purpose of life is 'wellness', that still comes down to the sexappeal/attractivity of his healthy body and soul which results in possibilities for sex.
