Judging from the responses, many of us here actually enjoy these discussions, so maybe you just need to find something else to go complain about.

I suggest GHB. If you think this thread is "dumb", I'd like to see what you think about him being in love with a gir(der).

In 1960 they thought we'd all have flying cars and working cyborg robots in 2000.

Now they say the same thing and even more. Why the hell should it be right this time =/

Well, don't forget that in addition to people with horribly overexaggrated predictions, there are also people with underexaggrated predictions, like those scientists in 1940 who built a model of a computer that we would have in 2000, and which couldn't even work, relying on technology which it was assumed we would invent by then. It was basically the size of an entire wall of a room and had 18 thousand scales and buttons, in addition to a printer the size of a desk and something that looked like a steering wheel

tone seems to find the most hated things ever. U know that episode of family guy when they're playing the game where they have to guess the animal and they guy is like it's a jackel it's a jackel is it a jackel? then stewie's like god if it wasn't right the first time why would it be right the others?
This is sort of like that.
(my quotes aren't so accurate buy they get to the point) At least for me....

If your point was "computers are smaller than that", let me remind you that the MareNostrum computer weights 45 tons and takes up 120 square meters of floor space.

that really puts some things in perspective, even if it isnt all that accurate.

like what if by the year 2070 i am an old man, and people are using mental augmentations. i dont think i would use them. would people call me an old fool for not using them? would i be the old guy telling everyone they are going to hell while they all think i have lost it? does this sort of thing already happen today? this future scares me.

im almost 25 years old. people our age can make it to see all of this because of the rise in life expectancy. it will be over 100 years before to long, but after that there can be no more rise in life expectancy unless more drastic measures are taken to actually control how the cell its self ages and reproduces, not just disease as a whole.

Considering Longhorn (win 06) is supposed to be nowhere near that, I doubt Win 09 will be anything like that nonsense.

I remember in the late 80's and early 90's, everyone was predicting flying cars in 2010, and that seems like the stupidest idea now.

"The neo-luddite movement is growing" Oh noes! Aaaa! Not the neo-luddites! They will destroy my PC with their...um...rakes and shovels! They will send me a virus...by coughing on me!

Nah, the neo luddites indicate their hatred of technology by using other technology like bombs :P
