I'm not sure what used to get played on American radio and what doesn't anymore, and I'm also not sure how many of these bands made it over to the states so I'm just posting what I would have in my comp that you haven't already listed (who the hell are the Butthole Surfers?)

Happy Mondays - Step On, Kinky Afro
Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life, Motorcycle Emptiness, You Stole The Sun From My Heart, there's loads...
Ocean Colour Scene - The Riverboat Song, The Day We Caught The Train
Placebo - Nancy Boy, Every Me Every You
        James - Sit Down
Radiohead - Paranoid Android, Karma Police
The Verve - Bittersweet Symphoney, The Drugs Don't Work
Stone Roses - Made Of Stone
        Supergrass - Alright, G-Song
The Cardigans - My Favourite Game
The Smiths - How Soon Is Now/Panic
        The Specials - Ghost Town
        Feeder - Buck Rogers/Just A Day

Does no one remember when Better than Ezra - Good was played every other song? Or how about that Collective Soul song, Jello or something?

                  Nirvana--smells like teen spirit
                  Jane's Addiction---been caught stealin
                  Red Hot Pussylickers---Breakin the girl

i mostly listened to cd's in the 90's, not radio.

                      The song was Jel.

He already mentioned Collective Soul - December. "The World I've Known" by Collective soul was also pretty huge.

Eve6 - "Inside Out" was another song that was huge on the radio, the same year as that Marcy Playground - Sex and Candy song that TK mentioned.

Of course he's looking for radio songs that he remembers "fondly" not just stuff that was hugely popular. I've always thought collective soul was decent though.
