The most salient aspect of the latest Pentagon restructuring plan is the continuing geographic shift in military resources from the Northeast and Midwest (and to some extent, from the West Coast)to the South and Southwest.

Northeast/midwest= mainly states that voted Kerry (Blue)
South/southwest= guess what? All Bush voting states.
Theres a 30,000 net loss in military-related jobs in the closed base states and probably a corresponding drop in economy.
While the loyal bush voters get more jobs and a better economy.

Validity of the website aside, maybe it's because there is more room in the South and Southwest then there is in New England? You can't really compare military bases with the way a state voted though; that's comparing two totally different things.

i read something about that in TIME magazine, so it's not entirely fake. they're not closing "ALL" bases, just some of them.

More room aside, there are other things to take into consideration, like the entire infrastructure throughout the south. The transportation systems via train are just looney tunes, as they've (not even after 150 years) completely recovered from the US Civil War. It costs more to ship freight into the south, than vice versa.

Strategery: Strategic placement. Bases in Maine for the shortest leap to Iceland and then on to europe. Bases in Floridia because of Cuba. Bases in California to be on the mainland as a hub to Hawaii, then to the Opium lovin' Orient. Hell, Fort Knox was put here in Kentucky partly because of the mountains to the east as a land barrier to invaders, but also because of the gun toting hicks as a living people barrier to invaders.

Comparing military bases with the way a state voted for the Commander in Chief of the United States Military. That's total apples and oranges. Uh huh.

I don't think there's any conspiracy to move everything to podunk Bush-lovin country. That'd just be silly and then the next time there's a nice vote on the defense budget, democrat senators would proceed to cut their nuts off. Can I see the rationale behind Bush (and a majority republican congress mind you) suggesting that sure if the Military is gonna open new bases or upgrade, hey why not do it where we are, since we're in control now? Sure. Easy to believe. Makes sense, and does in fact happen. Hell go look up the definition for "pork barrel politics". Go look up what a rider on a bill is. Go see how they passed the latest rider for the National ID standard, by attaching that to a bill that couldn't fail.

This is what young people get for letting old saggy fucks make all the rules.
