see i was talking about finacial backing for the bid to build stadia etc and they would want a government pledge of support to make sure the money was there to have a succesfull games.

which by now has been blown out of all proportion, was that in a bid to host the games does the fact that you need the Beckhams and zidanes to provide glitz and what have you, not make them seem more like a press circus than what should be, offers and plans to host the oylimpic games.

I'm sure the ppl of london are happy they have won, but would they be any less happy if beckham had stayed out of it completely and they never knew... nope, cuase that doesn't matter one bit in the whole process.

its my opinion that all these actors and sporting stars are given to high a pedestal in our society and its crazy when they are wheeled out for the latest election, bid, charity event just for publicity.

I think the role of those celebrity endorsements is being given more credit than it's due. Even before the reform to cut down on shady IOC bid practices, I don't see it as being that much of a factor. Sure the whole process is political; the endorsement of celebrities however probably ranks lower in the process than it does in the eyes of the public.
