I'd say at least 90% of the people reading this forum get that joke. Those chats have been posted here several times in the past.

The Balrog is a race of beasts created by Morgoth, Sauron's master and former Valar named Melkor. Think of Morgoth as Lucifer and the Balrog being his chief demons, along with Dragons. The Balrog they find in Moria was a Balrog from the First Age that, though they don't really explain it to my recollection, passed out of knowledge and into hiebernation(sp?) deep in the mountains, where sometime during the Third Age(I believe) the Drwaves were mining and awoke it.

And actually Sarien is right, though I don't agree with how he put it, but the Silmarillion mirrors the Bible very closely, thanks to Tolkien being a devote Catholic. Illuvatar is the name of God, Melkor would be Lucifer, Manwe would probably be the Archangel Gabriel or another of the high ranking Angels and is brother to Melkor. Elves are the first born and are the perfection of life, Humans are the Followers and Dwarves were created by one of the Valar, not by Illuvatar(God) himself.

"There are those who said this day would never come. What have they to say now?"
                    .Halo.

Y'know... if you were any stupider, I swear death by laughter would be a real medical occurance.

Balrogs were Maiar same as Gandalf and Sauron.

That balrog was Durin's Bane. He escaped from Angband when the Valar attacked Morgoth. And that's where he took up residence.

Take a look at that, they even have a moviegoer's guide to explain differences.

                            I wasn't talking about that.

I was talking about your alliterations between that book and the bible, man. It's the kind of thing that christians I tend to laugh at do.
