Help me write a message for a birthday card

The card is for my girlfriend's mother's birthday.

The front reads:

"I'm not going to insult your intelligence by sending you a typical birthday age joke, you're far too smart, you'd see it coming. After all you weren't born yesterday.."

The inside reads:

"... Obviously!
Happy Birthday"

I need to write a little personalised message after that, and i'm a bit stuck. If anyone has any SENSIBLE suggestions i'd be really greatful.

Depends on how close you are with your relationship with her.

I would go with the standard "Happy birthday, and best wishes," if you don't really know her, or don't have a close relationship with the mom. Usually, the reader will understand it means you don't know what to say, but want to be generally polite.

But if you have a good relationship and know a bit about her, I would make a brief comment about why you appreciate her, and what you think she would want to hear from you. Something like, "Happy birthday. I'm glad I met your daughter so I could get to know such a wonderful family," or something like that.

Or you could compliment her appearance by saying something about how you hope the saying is true about the daughter looking as beautiful as the mom when she is older...but that's a totally cliche and corny thing to say. Again, it depends on your relationship with her.

Older women love being reassured about their looks. But sometimes it is not appropriate to make these comments if the person hates you, or if you don't really know them that well. They will have the completely opposite effect.
