They're not letting us resit years at the college I go to, too many people are doing it so they just kick you out now.

Some kids in my college are retaking college for there 3rd or 4th time. Bit of a joke, especially as all the girls in my years like to go for the older guys <_<

Dont get too hung up on uni ratings. They're arbitary, and dont show the true quality of the uni/teaching/course.

The uni you go to wont stop you getting jobs (except maybe if youre trying to get in somewhere quite cliquey, like my profession, for example). The grade will, as it shows your dedication to the cause (many people cruise to a lower class of degree, and suffer subsequently).

So get the grades, and youll be fine.

Imho, another important point is your interview skills. Your CV gets you shortlisted, but how you present yourself clinches the deal.
Well, very simply, it's a biscuit, but it is also a cake - think of it as the transvestite of biscuits. They're about the size of, well, a biscuit, and they're basically a disc of sponge, with a bit of orange-flavour jelly on top, covered in a thin layer of chocolate.

Ignore what Troll King said. The best school all depends on what type of program you want to go into. Waterloo is tops in Engineering and Computers with Queens and UofT after it. Queens, Western, York and Laurier have great business programs. Personally, I wanted to go into economics (not the most popular of all programs) and I decided on Laurier because it has arguably the best economics program in the country. Rankings, like the ones in Mcleans magazine, don't mean much when they focus on things like library facilities and you care about getting a good education/job.

I will try and clarify what I said, by explaining my position. Im looking for a career in finance. Basically the way they select candidates for interview is just to look at the quality of the degree. First they will look at the the grade (basically they throw out anyone below a 2.1) then they look at where the degree came from. This is where the ranking of your uni counts.

I think that this is mainly the case for finance becasue it is a very competitive sector, and they are looking for the 'very best' (hopefully I can con them to take me too ) so you have to give yourself a head-start as possible. Most other jobs arent as competitive and proboably barely even glance at which uni you came from. As I said it all depends on your own personal situation...

oh ok thanks !cER - definately understand more about this stuff now. I'll have a think about it, although Portsmouth is still my favourite so far. I'll look at other places such as Cardiff, etc though.

Rankings in the UK don't really matter that much in my experience (i've done my grad & postgrad degree in the uk) unless you're in a uni that is widely aknowledged to by in the top 5 or so in your field. The big issue with grades is getting a 1st. Too many unis seem to give 2i's for even average student so they're great, but don't really make you stand out from the pack.

The single most important factor is the demonstrable links & experience you get during your stay at uni. What this should be depends on what industry you want to get into.

A mate of mine was a Sony student rep and got a PR job quite quickly. Another started up one of Manchester's most succesful student nights and got into consulting. Basically doing anything that shows you can take initiative, lead and/or have a real interest in the field you are applying for is probably the most important thing.

No, you can't. Student housing is restricted to a certain area, the shitty area. If you live in a nice town the shitty area isn't so shitty (Oxford). The campus doesn't move over town, so what you make of the town is what you walk through to get to uni. Nailed: Do not listen to what this person posts in this thread
