sorry i didnt have very long to read the thread or write a reply. i guess the person who asked the thread be closed is one of the founders of tw or the forums? if they dont want it on a forum that they own thats fine but you said they "accurately" pointed out that discussing that is as illegal as linking to bittorrent sites, which is just absolutely false. thats really all thats irksome about it to me.5:gen> man

you know, upon further review, there isnt more that a few out of the hundreds of threads on here that dont contain some vulgarity that a lot of people could take offense to. so if we spam complaints on every thread, and close all but the 5 non offensive ones, we would be cool...at least untill the people came into those threads to say WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE FORUMS!... then those would have to be closed too. hmmmIll-timed force will be ineffective; act with precision; timing is everything. Disclaimer: I'm no longer forum staff, but I'm pretty sure these things are still run in a similar fashion. Even when I was a mod, Zeus and I didn't see eye and eye on every rule. Think of the rules as a very VERY liberally interpreted constitution (no bill of rights), more of a set of guidelines than laws.4. No Warez/Serials/Cracks/Hax0ring/SS Cheats/etc, including links. This includes discussions of bittorrent/DC or other file sharing programs. It’s just not what these boards are for.
The No Warez rule was fleshed out during the emergence of Bittorrent, and was done because of the proliferation of "check this/that tracker", or "where can I find such and such" posts. It was made because, 1st and most obviously, much of the material on those trackers was being illegally trading, but in truth the TW forums have never been large enough to attract attention from the RIAA, MPAA, or whatever. The 2nd reason was because this is the Trench Wars Forums, not the trade music and videos forum. This is not to say the forum was built soley for discussing in-game material, but topics like hax/cracks/warez, torrents, etc, have a way of attracting large numbers of people who come for those items, not because they need a place to shoot the shit while not in game.
This isn't really the issue, but the thread brought back some memories and it's sort of an interesting insight in to how forum policy was, in a small way, formulated.Comment
