Heroes of Might and Magic V

Just DL'ed it today, and all I have to say is WOW.

For those of you who's never heard of it, Heroes of Might and Magic is a Turn-Based strategy game. If you haven't played HOMM 3, then you missed something. It's finally in full 3D, out in the world, the town, and the battles. And it looks awesome.

It feels like it's upgraded from HOMM 3, and not the crappy 4, so the gameplay is solid.

Some new monsters, and lots of old ones, and the level of the monsters have been mixed, but all of the changes fit nicely.

A perfect game, the only downside is that it's hard to spot small objects, so you have to zoom in/change angel to see it. But that's because it's in 3D.

I hope there's some HOMM fans in this forum, 4 was crap, but this one is just amazing.

I played 3 back in the day, it was addicting but I outgrew those kind of games.

I still miss the variety HOMM 3 had, with 8 different castles. HOMM 5 only got 6 teams.

But I have to admit that Fortress/Inferno/Stronghold was pretty crap compared to the other teams, so maybe it's balanced now it's 6 teams.

To the guy under, it was HOMM 4, the shitty game that made 3DO go bankrupt, Eidos bought them up and made HOMM 5.

EDIT:

Bad things:

- FEW maps (always lots of people making maps, so it'll come later).

- Where the fuck is the random map generator?

- Where the fuck is the map editor?

- Miss the 8 teams.

- Inferno is still bad.

- Lots of items in the world makes it hard to see them or get them. And when you point at a location, the horse animation stands up, which used to mean that you were pointing at something, but in this game it just means that you pointed at a location. Confusing, lots of scrolling/changing angles.

- If you got a bad comp, the world and battles may be slow. Luckily my laptop is a monster.

- Caravan from HOMM 4 is gone, so you have to manually run around and gather resources from those places.

- My lovely Unicorn got degraded into some level 3 unit with shitty hit points.

- LESS MAGIC

Good things:

- The hero isn't considered a regular unit anymore (thank god). Getting your hero raped in the beginning of the battle = lose.

- Balanced from what I've seen. But it seems like Necro still owns everyone in a long game cause of Necromancy.

- It's 3D, a positive thing if you got a good computer.

- Troops must have a hero. I think it's a good thing, having some ugly monsters run around in the world without a hero in HOMM 4 was just stupid. They are monsters afterall, and need someone to control them.

- Mostly based on HOMM 3, would be fucked if they based this one on HOMM 4.

- Lots of new skills, and the magic system is more fun. It was too easy in HOMM 3 with expert Earth and Air, Townportal, Dimension Door/Airwalk to catch running heroes/defend, and Implosion to rape monsters.

I played HOMM 3 and all the expansion a whole lot over the past few years. I wish you could customize the campaigns a bit more because it becomes a little too easy even on impossible difficulty. I'm glad 4 sucked Ratty because I have been meaning to go and buy it. Can you tell me what kind of requirements I need for the game? My graphics card is quite old

Doesn't say anything about the graphic card, but it has to be pretty decent.

HOMM 4 isn't worth playing, the only good thing with it is the music, it's really a waste of time. It felt like they rushed making the game. HOMM 4 made 3DO go bankrupt, should tell you how bad it is

Wow I never even realized that HOMM 4 was even created and I'm a big fan of the series. Guess I won't bother with it though. Gonna check out HOMM 5 though.
