That never occurred to me. I thought I came to this thread to prove that I was no more a hypocrite or a bigot than the common person.

That's exactly what your religion does. It prevents people from thinking. "Don't question existence, death, or human nature unless you want to suffer for eternity when you die!

I don't have a religion. Just because I love the Lord and fundamentally believe 99.1% of the written Word (there is a book of blatent fiction in the O.T.), doesn't mean that I belong or subscribe to any religion. Although I lean towards the Protestant half of Christianity, If anything, I belong to a denomination of one; me. I answer to no religious authority other than the spiritual convictions of my heart.

Perhaps a few denominations might discourage some from researching outside sources, but it's my opinion that God honors a curious & skeptical seeker of the Truth. If you haven't figured it out by now, I am a theologian with 10 years of intense, indepth research. I've studied not just the bible, but the ancient manuscripts, some of which were considered to be part of the canon. I've read & studied other books by scholarly theologians and by zealous yet informed lay people. I've studied world history, church history, religious history and archeology as it relates to biblical concepts. My conclusion after all this.... religion is a horizontal thing for mankind to compare themselves with one another. It's one-up-manship started by the evil ones to confuse and to bring strife. It is what the bible says is the 'Whore of Babylon', a prostitute selling confusion.

Instead, listen to this book, authored almost a millennium ago by numerous different people, with numerous different intentions and perspectives, edited numerous different times and lost a bit in translation.

No sir, I do listen to Jesus, but I don't just listen to him. I consider the other views and opinions of fellow men and hold them all in the same esteem. None of them was any better than the other, no matter what any fucking book has to say. If that isn't considering the gravity of history, then what the fuck is. At least I'm considering the broad spectrum of men's vantages, rather than closing my mind to the view of only one.

That's your opinion and that's fine. We're all entitled to our own opinion, but it sounds to me that you've omitted a view to make room for others.

That's what the millennial reign of Christ is for.. to allow everyone to live under the authority of absolute Truth before they're judged to non-existence, if that be the verdict. But it is a very frustrating, and daunting task. For instance, I know guys that have very strong willed opinions about anything sports related, but could care less about politics. They know Kobe Bryant's exact free throw percentage to the fucking tenth decimal, but they have no idea that it is predicted that Africa will be completely wiped from existence in our lifetime. An entire race of people gone, and they want to argue about if Lebron is better than Kobe. Now don't get me wrong, it's important to have mundane activities in your life, but for christ's sake, at some point we need to get things done. I look around me, and I see a bunch of kids that are completely unmotivated to get anything done. It's really quite sad. For instance, back in school, there were guys that would watch sports, and read lengthy articles on various sports, but would shy away from reading the 5 or 6 articles assigned for us to read each week in Contemporary Problems. They were more than willing to give their opinions on whether to resign Shaun Alexander or not, but when we tried to have a debate on anything halfway intellegent, they would shy away.

Just wait until you get out of highschool, those guys you are talking about now usually end up doing one of three things-

1) Join the army

2) Go on the "5, 6 year college plan" on daddy and momy's money

3) Wake the fuck up and do something with their lives

It's sad to see some kids only find motivation through joining the army- 2 guys I sort of knew both signed up for the army a few months ago simply because they didn't know what they wanted to do with their lives. They didn't have really any motivation during highschool and had slacked off.

Then on the other side of the coin you see the folks that did "ok" in highschool, the ones that had good families growing up and just dicking around once they get to college. Granted, college is a place where you can get away from your parents and go to parties and have fun, but some people take it over the edge. Politics and things going on in the world are not a huge issue, what's happening for them right now is- and whatever they can get as soon as possible, that is as entertaining as possible.

In regards to all age ranges, people seem to know and care more about American Idol and the World Cup than current events or learning about something new.

The "easy living" life-style that so many have today combined with the war and boost in negative backlash from other countries has made too many just turn inwards and focus on things that are easy "distractors". Sex, Sports and Videogames.

Joining the Army was the best thing I could've done. It filled in most of the disciplinary gaps my parents didn't or couldn't enforce. The nice thing about the Army is that you can choose the job you want... given your entry exam scores are high enough. (i maxed every test the Army threw at me... even getting expert marksman with the M16.)

k i read most of the first posting... i understand jesus freaks i really do ... i went to church up until i was about 14 faithfully every sunday. But stop trying to push it on others please. This is one of the reasons why ya cant even say the danged pledge of allegiance in schools anymore.

btw i had a best friend in high school who's father was gay. I and everyone else who knew her thought it was cool. She was very popular and well loved and no one looked down on her for it. She was never gay bashed or anything and she felt free to be who she wanted... not pressured to be gay or not be gay either way.

Being gay is mother natures way of saying there are way too many people on this planet... start taking care of the children you already have here <gay couples adopt a lot of children from the state here in the usa>.

I've had a ton of gay friends and there is more than one use for the word queer. I tend to use it for idiots who act like total creeps in the game.
