I used no translator, else I would have just done the whole bit, I translated the words I recognized from the what we did with some common sense added to it.

The way we did the text was the same as 404, our teacher first read the old English one out loud. And on the next page there was a translation which we did next. After that he explained the meaning of the text and why Beowulf was so important.

The lines we had to learn by heart were for bonus points.

Again, I honestly could not care less as to if you actually believe me or not.
Maybe God was the first suicide bomber and the Big Bang was his moment of Glory.

Sunny Day Real Estate - Grendel is a great song.

EDIT: Well I do believe you now since you said you used the translation as well.

Nice try bud, but even with the aid of an Old English translator, which I know you used, it's more difficult than you thought. You were probably thinking of Middle English (which still requires some use of translator/endnotes) or even Victorian English (like Shakespeare). Old English is a different language.

        EDIT: I'm too mean.
You're probably right. Whatever it was we read it in, it wasn't modern English, and my teacher probably lied to say it was in old english.

Whatever the case, my point still stands that it was a bitch to read.

Internet forums aside, there are only three things I read on a regular basis:

          - http://www.guardian.co.uk/theguide/b...280131,00.html
          - The free newspaper I get from the girl standing outside Oxford Circus on my way home every evening
