      Vista has speech recognition hole

Microsoft has admitted that speech recognition features in Vista could be hijacked so that a PC tells itself to delete files or folders.
Vista can respond to vocal commands and concern has been raised about malicious audio on websites or sent via e-mail.

In one scenario outlined by users an MP3 file of voice instructions was used to tell the PC to delete documents.
      Classic MS!

I will wait for the SP-1 or 2 before I upgrade. I only just upgraded to XP Pro within the past 6 months from W2K. I actually think W2K worked better for me other a few features that XP has that I like.

solution: dont wisit porn sites and dont open attachments.

the problem is not that ms dont do enough to stop this, or have a crappy os. the problem is that there will always be people that try to find a way to exploit others. the second problem is that most people are idiots!

if 80% used ubuntu or osx, the security risks would appear in those, not windows..

Installed it yesterday...have had no real problems with it. Installed a new HD on my system and got Vista Pro on sale with a free PNY 1 GB USB memory stick.

After messing about with it, the 1st thing I changed is my memory....already upgraded it to 2 GB from my 1 GB prior. I am looking at changing my soundcard and video card in the next week. Problem with the soundcard is that Creative Sound Blaster Live! is not supported driver wise. So I will most likely upgrade to X-Fi Fatal1ty card and as for the Graphics....I have been looking at either the Nvidea GeForce 7950 GX2 or the GeForce 7950 GT, possibly overclocked....the 8000 series are still too pricey IMHO.

Other than the typical driver problems when any new release of an OS come out, I have no complaints. I was suprised though that HP didn't have drivers for many of it's older printers...old being maybe 2 yrs old.

I bought it only because since I recently bought my computer I could have a free upgrade, just had to pay shipping and handling. I wont install it til the service packs come out and hopefully some drivers/updates are available because I ran a "will Vista run" test and a LOT of my stuff wasnt compatible with Vista..and it's friggin a brand new computer.

"Most users won't even know they've been infected until they notice that their computer is sitting in a pool of viscous gray sludge – sludge that used to be their hard drives," Mr. Sickle said.

Grass roots remedies, such as applying aspirin or Vicks Vapo-Rub to the outer surface of the computer, Mr. Sickle said, are believed to be ineffective.

I think that was probably faked, but, whatever.

I wouldn't buy a new graphics card for Vista already. You should get something with DX10 support since that is basically the point of getting Vista and having a powerful PC (you said you have 2 gigs of RAM which is pretty good). Right now I think the only DX10 card is the GeForce 8800 which is obscenely expensive. Some low or midrange priced cards will surely come out in a few months once Vista has been around for a little while then you can get a better card for the same amount of money.

I don't know why people have all these problems. I installed Vista on my one year old machine. It runs better than before which I honestly don't understand. I know I did a clean install which improves performance but XP never ran this good on my older PC. I swear. My working theory is that Vista supposedly runs better on a dual core processor while XP didn't take advantage of that.

I had literally one driver incompatibility, otherwise everything just loaded itself. Installation didn't require even the tiniest amount of computer knowledge or even common sense. It basically installed itself. My one incompatibility had something to do with my onboard sound card. Sound still worked, it just said the driver should be changed. It actually gave me the website for the company and I surfed there and they had a driver for me to install at which point Vista stopped complaining. It was actually really good. Vista worked fine it just gave me a message when I entered control panel basically saying "this driver isn't working 100%, go here and download a new one". I can understand people having one or two issues but based on my 1 year old PCs experience, some people are just lying or retarded.

Nevermind the fact that its just nicer to look at, and yes, its nicer than a Mac or linux. And yes, its more user friendly and a better interface. Also, even with all these incompatibility issues its still compatible with vastly more shit than a Mac would be.

I noticed one interesting thing during set up which has nothing really to do with Mac, Windows, Linux, whatever, its just a sign of the times. Remember back in the day with win95 or 98 where you had to configure your internet connection... There were a few questions and numbers you needed to know and it was like a big fucking deal... Same with broadband in the early days of XP. You had check a few boxes, uncheck others, enter in some ip addresses and shit. I just formatted my harddrive, left the cable plugged in, and let Vista do its business while I showered and clicked the next button from time to time. Once it was done high speed internet was just there. Your broadband connection just autodetects itself now like monitors and shit always have. Did you guys notice that too... I mean with Macs its the same deal hell they have built in wifi...

i was using vista for about 2 months and i finally gave up. it was just all the minor irritations that got me. like bitcomet downloads not saving properly. daemon tools not able to mount images, even though it claims to be compatible i always get "unable to mount image in kernel mode". my soundcard drivers not working ( well they work just not in 5.1). video was choppy as hell even though i have a crazy video card, im talkin normal video too, movies ect. games error out when i try to window. i could go on for a while but ill spare you.

long story short im on XP again and i think illl wait for a few of MS's lovely service packs before trying again

edit: the final straw was when i was playing some civ 4 and about 4 hours into my game it just closed. no error message, no warning, just vanished. i almost looked like that german kid from the youtube video, but with less destruction lol

I have always had games just closing on me.. just in the middle of the game some error occurs and it closes.

I saw vista today for the first time, and it looks pretty neat, but that guy also said he has had troubles with it and found lotsa bugs and whatever.
