Just wait a year...Bugs will be fixed, price will be lower.
I'm stickin' with XP. Only running MS Office 07, which rocks.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal...

As I know you're into music and lots of it, I can't stop wondering how you can skip an M-Audio when buying a new sound card

I have 4 other computers that I work on. Am using the Vista machine for non-music items, as well as just getting to know the in's and out's of the O.S.

I have one system dedicated to music only. All my systems at home are also networked, so it's not as bad as I thought it would be at first when I couldn't utilize certain function on the Vista system.

If I count all the systems I have accounts with from gotomypc.com with my work computers and snap servers....I have many ways to work around all the bugs I am discovering in Vista.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

I wouldn't buy a new graphics card for Vista already. You should get something with DX10 support since that is basically the point of getting Vista and having a powerful PC (you said you have 2 gigs of RAM which is pretty good). Right now I think the only DX10 card is the GeForce 8800 which is obscenely expensive. Some low or midrange priced cards will surely come out in a few months once Vista has been around for a little while then you can get a better card for the same amount of money.

I don't know why people have all these problems. ...
My graphic card is an older GeForce 5000 series card....don't get me wrong, as it is working better than it ever has on Vista...I am actually getting frame rates I never dreamed about prior to this O.S. The GeForce 8800 is way overpriced, but the 7000 series have direct X 9...it's not 10 obviously, but there are some realy good deals on the overcloked 1 gig 7000 series. My card is a 5000 series that's somewhat old and I would love to put that in one of my other systems.

I had only 1 gig and just upgraded to the 2 gig...what a difference! 1 gig was ok and did the job, but again...I want to push the O.S. and see the actual nuances I would not have been accustomed to with 1 gig. Work paid for the memory...a write off

The only problems I have encountered with the drivers are:

Real audio & Rhapsody Player- just will not work in Vista

Microtek Scanner (4900) - Drivers are not avail. and will not be for the scanner I am using, so says the email I gt from Microtek's support.

HP photosmart 1215 no drivers, but the HP 2000 photosmart drivers seem to work for my printer...not going to even mess with it while it works.

Creative Labs Soundcard Live! series...no drivers will be available...but the Audigy 7.1, X-Fi Fatal1ty and models above as I noted have drivers.

Nero 7 does not work with Vista, but Nero 7 Unlimited does, so eventually I will upgrade that too...I have other computers networked with Nero 7 on them, so this is not a priority.

The Vista I am running is the Vista Pro 32 btw. I can honestly say that on a clean new HD, it runs fine and faster than any of my other systems. My graphics never looked better thanks to the Vista Aero settings & it is emulating the drivers for my old Video card real nice, but as noted, I would like to push that a bit further with a newer card...not a priority, but if I see a deal on a 7000 series, I will try it!

Overall I like it...I did have to change my setting to 16 mill colors rather than 32 when I was running SubSpace...and TW runs real nice on this...had frame rates of 80's - 90's and only ever had 40's - 50's prior to Vista.
May your shit come to life and kiss you on the face.

So, right now, I hold a box containing Windows Vista. I have no computer which this has a purpose on, but I guess considering I'm getting a new Mac Pro/MacBook Pro (which ever is updated first), I might as well own a copy.
