  • I definitely missed the adventures they would get in at Hogwarts. For the first time reading the series, during the whole sitting-in-a-forest-wondering-what-to-do-for-weeks-on-end I actually got bored and wondered when it would get better. I had to force myself to read more after the 10th time they packed up the tent and moved. Then there was Harry's constant inner monologue about hating Dumbledore for not telling him what to do that never seemed to end. I get why she did it, but why did it have to be so much??

I did really like that the book made Dumbledore more of a human that makes mistakes than a holy god. The Snape back story was interesting too.

Overall, not my favorite book in the series (#1 is Goblet of Fire). I was hoping that Sirius would somehow come back from the dead (seriously he falls through a door and is dead? That's it?!); I also thought Harry would be a horcrux--but I knew somehow he would stay alive; aaaand I liked the cheesy epilogue. Hurray for happy endings!

    • I like happy endings too but naming your kids after your dead parents? There's creepy and there's creepy. The third book was my favourite book, I was really pissed when I found out Sirius died. Why are so many people crying over this book? Not crying as in whining but literally crying, all three main character's lived so why is it so sad for some people?

I heard a lot of talk after book six about how Snape might be good, and quite frankly it didn't bother me either way.
it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

      • I always knew Snape was good. Never thought he was actually evil. Didn't they name one Severus? Horrible name, dont care if he is practically a martyr. I can understand naming after parents in honor of them..I mean he never even knew them and they saved his life.

She didn't have to just write about the ONE battle. The war was spilling over into the muggle world, the ministry was being taken over. There were so many battles she could of made.. she could of twisted a twirled that plot so many times. Everything was too forced, too smushed together. The ending, almost seemed like the publisher was actually looking over her shoulder tapping a foot impatiently. The Lord of the Rings maybe drawn out, but it's drawn out for reasons. Rowling didn't have to draw it out, she had plenty of exciting things she could of done. Instead, she just mafe Harry out to be the ultimate cliche of a hero, and killed a bunch of his friends. Then she just skips ahead 19 years and everythings all good? So many things left unanswered, so many problems that we don't even know how got fixed. Just, Voldemort is dead! The whole world is saved! Yay, happy happy joy joy joy. A little too childish for me, even if they are kids books :S

          • The epilogue.. meh, looked like she just did that within the hour cause the publisher wanted better closure or whatever.

The general ending was ok. Though ever since I actually read the whole: Harry has to die to kill Voldermort I was really hoping that Harry would die. It would have also put a far more definite ending to the series. But still the ending wasn't bad, specially like Neville's rise to greatness.

It would have been better to kill George then Fred, seeing as Fred already had his ear cut off. I did expect Snape to somehow turn out good, ever since the previous book, but I kinda expected that the whole Snape killed Dumbledore wasn't true.

It feels like the book could have been better, certain parts just seemed to lack something, though I wouldn't be able to exactly say what it needed or what it lacked. But overall I liked the book.

They could have done more with the kid of Lupin and Tonks.. I mean Harry knew they died, knew he was the godfather, but during his whole I must go let myself be killed now struggle, it never even came up. Even though he was in the exact same situation, parents killed, Godfather in Prison.

I think what it lacked was depth, in all regards. I think all the fame got to her, and she didn't take the time to really write a good book. She just rode the hype, and threw together the ending of the series. She must of had most of what she was going to write already planned out, so she just took that and tossed it together like one big ass salad. I was also pretty pissed that she killed off so many characters like Black. The woman couldn't write a good death scene if she had a gun to her head. I did like the Snape/Dumbledore thing, but other than a couple points in the book, it was just terrible. The only reason people liked it I find, is because they love the characters, and the story has been with them so long. I think she should be forced to re-write the entire thing, it lacks realism, depth, and any sort of urgency. She didn't build anything up, she didn't twist anything. I saw everything coming before it happend. I suppose if it wasn't a kids book, and maybe if she wasn't a woman (sorry, but give me a good female fantasy author and I'll take that back) she could write a decent fantasy book. But for me, it turned out like a fairy tale, and that sucks.

              • Well as literature, it definitely wasn't the best book. As far as the movies go, this could be the best movie if they don't fuck up by only making it 2 or 2.5 hours. I am more then willing to sit through a 3 to 3.5 hours movie if it's done like LOTR and I am sure most Die Hard Potter fans would. But you can't cram this book in less. Make it in 2 parts if you have too.

                • Exactly what I was thinking, if they make this a movie they better make it right. They should warn people that it's 3-3 1/2 hours and let them decide if they want to see it or not. I can't say I wont see this movie if it's 2 hours but I'm really hoping they make it a hella' lot longer.
