In more secular countries like Canada we've seen more children being born out of wedlock and such. I don't think without religion people are immoral monsters who find nothing wrong with killing, stealing ect... My parents (one Catholic and one Protestant) decided not to indoctrinated me and my brothers into any form of religion or faith as children, though one wanted Catholic schooling. They believed that choosing your religion was an important choice and that teaching a person right and wrong didn't factor into a religious or spiritual education.

Statistically those who have a strong religiosity or ties to families values are shown to maintain less stable environments for their family unit. So no I don't think religion corresponds in anyway to producing more moral or well adjusted people.

"Atheism" is actually lack of belief in the supernatural. I guess you could call me an atheist, since I do not follow any religion and the magical tea pot in orbit is still using a cloaking device (even though society tends to view it in a bad light). Atheist does not box people into ideologies or world views such as Christianity or other faiths so to your comment about "free thinkers", you I guess as a religious person you are free to think within the bounds that God exist, you can not question his existence, he loves you, he created you and will save you existential ass when the time comes (if you believe, note the word belief). When was the last time you've seen a channel devoted to Atheism or an entirely different religion? We have 2 Christian channels up here on basic cable.

Yo, I accept that non-religious people do bad things. What I'm arguing is that religious people do bad things in the name of religion and call them good things.

I don't know if I ever spoke about evolutionary psychology, nore was I aware that it was a field of study. Once again you remind me of the typical Christian American showing a masterclass in close-reasoning (not even that in this case, you really have excelled yourself). What makes you think that I was arguing anything along the lines of womens roles in society? I was saying that in religious texts women are referred to as inferior and in many fundamentalist cultures women are treated as lessers. See; Islam - Burkas.

Ohhhh, so they only stone women PAGANS! Fuck, my bad. You're actually wrong but I still wanted to ridicule how proposterous that argument was.

Is that right Ronn? I was brought up vaguely christian but through my independence I learnt that it was absurd to think this way. I don't have stats to hand but it's been proven that Athiests are generally more intelligent people and less gullible than those who are religious. 9/10's of all religious people are the religion of their parents, coincidental eh? The very nature of Athiesm requires the Athiest to think clearly, it's not really a sect that really tries to convince anyone unlike religion.

I find it absurd how you can say that Athiesm is 'wishy washy'. I'm sorry that you're so misinformed. What's more 'wishy washy' believing that a God created the Heaven and the Earth on one day, Light on the second, Animals on the third etc etc. What's more 'wishy washy' than the Holy Trinity?

Guess how the Bible claims God created man and women? Yes, he created man out of dust and he made women out the man's rib. Oh damn, another sexist reference and oh damn yet another 'wishy washy' explanation.

I'm sorry if you think that believing in a rational explanation is 'wishy washy', I'm also quite offended that you would say that Athiests promote propaganda. I would think if there was one sect of people out there who would be least susceptable and least likely to use propaganda it would be Athiests. The facts speak for themselves Ronn, we don't need wishy washy theories like you, son.

Damn, I disagree completely. You're effectively saying don't admire the world in all it's beauty - admire something that doesn't even exist. What a superficial and uninspired life you must live.

My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

The principles and values that lead people to what we'll call better "morality" are independent of religion. Participation in an organized (or unorganized for that matter) religion does not make you a good person. That being said, religion can be an effective delivery mechanism when correctly utilized. What often happens is that people get so caught up in a religion (Christianity is a prime example of this) that they lose sight of what that religion is actually trying to convey.

Ultimately, we are all as "good" as we choose to be.

My countries laws were founded by Christian laws, but then again I'm really down with fucking girls in the ass and buying worthless crap on Sundays.

here's your essay, Although countries existing in the western world were created on the foundations of Christian laws they have evolved secularly to develop new laws that are more modern and reflect our current society.

                          1) Theocracies allow a traditional way of thinking, which is not always bad but it doesn't always allow for progress within the given society. (examples Iran, the Iran U.S incident, banning music, dancing, anything associated with the western world etc)

                          2) We are socialized at a young age, primarily from our parents to believe in simple things such as right and wrong thus religious laws are no longer a necessity in the western world (common knowledge that we are mainly socialized by our parents, some other books from some dead dude)

                          3) Christian and even Muslim laws are based of books and texts from thousands of years ago and they do not reflect our current beliefs, values, or ideologies. Religious laws are bias towards men and do not talk about the value of women in society, minority rights become a huge issue in most theocracies (only theocracy left is Iran, and I'm not even 100 percent on that one) use examples from the bible of how god created women to be the men's 'helper' or the Koran which says flat out that a women's worth is half of a mans.
