Too bad you started to insult him first, and made it look like you were an expert. Which you obviously aren't. You can be as right as an expert, but the patronizing was uncalled for, since you can't really prove him wrong.

I didn't plan out your example to a T, I simply went with the days and types of exercises you suggested doing. I don't do FBW's, I break it up into lower/upper and arms/stomach. The types of exercises I do, depend on if I'm in a bulking or toning phase- even then I usually do 3 times a week, although it's been down to 2 since I started Kung Fu. People that aren't in shape or are new to working out shouldn't really start out by exercising everyday even if they do eventually go for 4/5 day training schedules, because it's a pretty rough introduction to the world of fitness.

I know you never said everyday isn't the optimal way to train, and you'll notice I've never said you specifically have given out bad advice, I was merely clarifying what advice I thought was poorly phrased and given. Over my years going to the gym I've seen people with poor guidance start off on the wrong foot, not stretch and end up hurting themselves, or even getting the proper form down incorrectly when weightlifting- so to me, clarity is key.

Yea I've done Squat 5x5's, have you heard of 21'ing? That shit is great for specific exercises, and helps to get past a plateau with a certain weight.
Alright :-) I can agree with that. And no I didn't hear about 21'ing. got some link? :turned: (couldn't find it in Google).

            • it all depends on what youre doing. what is your goal in all this? lose some weight? train for some event (ie triathlon)? or just bulk up?

the only thing i have any experience with is training for one sport: swimming.

i swam for longer than i care to recall. looking back on high school, i consumed 5000+ calories a day (no kidding). i also swam 10000+ yards a day (split about 40%-60% between 2 practices, morning and evening). being much younger than i am now, all of those calories werent of the quality they should have been (not exactly 'balanced', i ate alot of starchy carbs such as pasta).

i wasnt as good of a swimmer as i could of been because i didnt lift much, or run, or things that could have improved my overall ability. (i did lots of body weight work: crunchs, pushups, pull ups and all that).

but i didnt really rest. i usually swam 6 days a week. 5 days of practice and one meet. and often, the night before the meet, i ate a crapton of pasta. i dont know if thats still a good practice, but was called carb-loading. we usually got together as a team and had a good time of it just hanging out and eating. (swimmers put away alot of food. a whole lot of food. they can also drink, that led to my swimming career's decline )

i dont really have much of a point in typing all of this except to give the point that, during season, i didnt rest much. but its a different type of workout i suppose. also, no matter what youre doing, drink lots of water. water is the best thing no matter what youre doing. water isnt what gives you energy, but its the carrier for all the nutrients and energy to and from your muscles. so yeah, lots of water.

in fact, forget anything else i may have said; drink lots of water before, during, and after working out.

edit: and as far as the meals a day thing is concerned. i remember eating throughout the entire day a little bit, but i tried to make sure my main meals would be finished digesting right in time for my practices. that allows me to have as much energy as possible right in time for my practice. i was able to train just that little bit harder if i timed things right. in my opinion, i think it would be good to get on some type of schedule for both working out and eating. depending on what youre doing at a certain time, eat accordingly and beforehand to have that necessary energy available right at the time you plan to use it. from the way i remember biology working, eat something that is a little heavier in carbs and some fats before you work out, then something more protein heavy after to help muscles recover.

blue denotes where i talk out of my ass with nothing official to back it up. i was going to go through my post and highlight more, but i didnt feel like it, so dont trust anything i say unless it happens to be correct. i really dont know. im just giving insight to how i used to train.

                • Seems to me if you train for MMA a lot and eat generally healthy food you are so far ahead of the curve that the amount of meals you eat per day is just entirely irrelevant.

                  • That's true Face. I think the whole "eating 6 meals per day" thing more applies to the people who are having trouble eating right. If people are trying to diet and are new to health and fitness, they will cut out calories and such. Then they'll feel hungrier between their meals. Solution? Overeating or failing. By eating 6 small meals, they won't feel hungry between meals, and thus they won't overeat and the diet will be less likely to fail.

I'm sure that eating 6 small meals has benefits for people who aren't ignorant about health as well though. It does keep your metabolism going all day, won't cause spikes in your blood sugar, and etc etc. You don't have to eat 6 meals a day in order to lose weight, but it would probably help. I eat 4 meals a day of about 300 calories each, and I never feel deprived or hungry.

exactly but mr. LB never botherd to ask what I was indeed training for and what my goals were so his whole arguement was irrelavent!

                            • So eating carbs is bad..?

Alright, im 5'10, about 171 lbs. I have a large frame, 155-165lbs is average for height.

I really dont have a lot of fat, im at 7.8 %... However I'm looking to drop about 10-15 lbs for cut, and also for MMA. Going by that scale, i can eat about 3000 calories a day if I wanted to stay the same way.. So I cut down to 2,000 calories intake. I work out every other day at the gym, with high backrow exercise, jogging, excessive low weight high rep for speed. I also work at fedex for 4 hours day which is moderate exercise.

I understand the 5-7 meals a day, in essentially 2 of those are protein shakes, one before going to sleep typically. I already eat about 5, consuming an egg white sandwich with a piece of ham and bread. (I think i mightbe going wrong on that one)..

What I have hard time understanding is bad carbs vs good carbs?? What kind of things are good carbs, what can I incorporate in a day.. any vegatable? any bread? (or just wheat bread) , what kind of pasta, etc etc

Looking for someone with more experience with Carbs, I dont understand them, please help me out.
I found a nickel and I bought a fishing pole, Then I sold some fish, got a raft, fished more, sold massive fish, sold raft, bought a ship, hired a first mate (awesome), picked up a crew, won TWL.....
