I too am a 'eat all day' kind of guy, because I believe the same thing as you, but it's a gut feeling. I haven't found proof yet, that it's actually going to make me healthier, more energetic and will lengthen my lifespan.
I'm an animator yes, but I never said I was an expert on nutrition. Just because I'm not spouting nonsense and ridiculous dribble on healthy eating and living like some posters here, doesn't mean I think I'm the end-all on the subject of nutrition. If you would like me to pull up long LB-posts about how eating smaller meals, multiple times a day is better for you than eating fewer, larger meals; then I'll have no problem doing that around lunch time. Otherwise it's easier for everyone here to just laugh at the idiots.
My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

actually zerz. From my experience 6 meals a day (3 bigger meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner and 3 more snacks, like fruit or whatever) is better than only 3 or 2 a day. It helps your digestive system which will work better and digest more and better.

I have also felt a lot more energetic since I really started eating 6 times a day.

Who are these "idiots" of nutritional help? Why are you the only one on this "2d space ship game forum" that goes to the gym and works out or cares about what they eat and how to stay healthy? So am I a liar when I say that I've been going to the gym for years now training in many different martial arts and fighting internationally over those years? Am I a liar when I say that I am in top physical condition as a athlete? All I tried to do was help the guy who made the thread come up with a few new ideas on how to work out. I simply stated I eat alot, alot of good food and now you're off on some "I am all knowing of the basic food groups and how to consume these food groups everyone else here is a nerdy 2d space ship game form user that knows nothing tantrum!" Quite frankly I think you are the one I shouldn't be listening to for advice on how to stay fit and eat right because I know where my logic comes from and who gave me that information. I've never seen any of your crudentials, to me you are "the nerdy 2d space ship forum user", me I can prove anything I say with videos/photos/success stories. Wheres yours?

                LOL you guys are funny...

You eat small meals because of sugar level, and if you train you need to eat "small" meals to feed your muscles. (you don't really eat small meals when you lift weights...)

If you eat 3 big meals you will be very hungry between them and your body will be in catabolic stat. not ideal if you train to build muscles, nor if you do diet since you need to eat less and get into that stat but you will prefer a normal level of sugar during the day and not to be mad hungry.

also, if you eat small meals your body get what it needs more often, which is preferable than a large periods between meals.

                thats in general detroit

I think we need to be more specific as to what these "small meals" really are. Is it 6 granola bars a day? Because when I hear small meal I think to myself a slim fast or something silly. I never said I don't snack on stuff inbetween breakfast/lunch/dinner b/c I do I just like to eat my three good meals a day inbetween my daily activities. Seems sufficient and normal, I'm basically just getting at the fact that I don't need to weigh and balance every single meal and have it pre planned out 6 times a day to be healthy. I don't need to read every nutrional fact on every item of food I eat b/c I know the difference between good food, and bad food. I also don't beleive in all of this "less fat, less trans fat, and fat free" products. I think the crap they put in those products to take out the "fat" is whats bad for you. Real food with real appetite and a real days work ='s a healthy human being. Thats my logic.

The reason for eating 6smaller sized meals a day is for metabolism reasons. 6meals a day is awesome if the meals aren't consisting of crap. Geio, I think you started the thread..I can't remember, or for who anyone who wants to learn about new exercises, routines, and nutrition just go to www.menshealth.com. Follow what they have to say and I can guarantee you'll get what you want.

If you eat 3 "big" meals and a fruit between them or other small snack, thats alright. If you are in good shape, do exercise and doesn't smoke, you are more than alright. Even if you eat an hamburger here and there and break your diet, its much better than eating on a routine. Fat isn't the problem. plain carbohydrate like in white bread and some drinks are. People think if they will start eat low fat food they will be healthy but they are just wrong. They will just slowly get into problems.

You don't need to argue about it with Liquid Blue. He obviously started argue with you on matter he isn't familiar with, like he does in a lot of other threads.

6 is better than 3, aka LB you don't know what you're talking about!!!

Sorry for the late reply, I had to finish up a preloader animation for a client and the time just slipped right by! I hope you don't mind this blast from the past, link/source heavy, slightly condescending even though I'm not trying to be- LB post. I'm not on the internet as much so I've been able to avoid dipping into these too often.

Why eating 6 meals a day, is better for you than eating three

I know there hasn't been a large amount of reliable information in this thread, and I admit I haven't helped by just sitting on the sidelines snickering at the idiots. A few are wondering why eating more meals a day (lets say 6) than just three, so I might as well pitch in and try to shed some light on the subject. I'll break it down to a really simple and basic level, and then give you some sources to check up on, since I am not an expert on nutrition, despite popular opinion.

Multiple small (healthy) meals a day, is very good for you, for a number of reasons-

                        -Keeps your energy up
-Keeps your blood sugar level up (bye bye hunger attacks)
                        -It promotes muscle growth
-Speeds up your metabolism without storing fat, burns calories effciently
-Preserves lean muscle (you lose fat but not your muscle!)
-Prevents nightime binge eating (no more adding unwanted fat before you sleep!)

Now the key, the real key, is to eat multiple, healthy meals every day. Eating fast food 4 times a day and then sitting on the couch is not good for you. Here are some sources for you to check out:

Research shows that eating one big meal a day instead of several small meals is not likely to aid in weight loss and could lead to serious health problems. Various studies have examined the connections between eating patterns and obesity. Even with the same number of calories, people who ate fewer times per day were actually at a higher risk of becoming obese.
One is that infrequent eating increases blood insulin levels. When there is a lot of insulin in the blood, fat is more likely to be stored than digested, so higher insulin levels may impact body weight. The relationship between obesity and infrequent eating may also be a result of how the body processes fat and glucose, depending on whether you are physically active after you eat. For example, if you only eat one big meal in the evening then go right to bed, your body may store glucose as fat rather than burning it as fuel.

                        ---

Fortunately, there is a solution. Eat 5 - 6 healthy, small meals per day. Men should shoot for 6 meals a day while women should try to get in 5 meals per day. Yes, you heard me right and you may have heard it before, but please take notice this time. Frequent, small, healhy meals provide a number of benefits that will help you reach the highest fitness level possible.
Eating 6 meals a day will boost your metabolism, helping you to burn more calories all day long.

In fact, by eating super-clean, high protein foods at each of your six meals, you will find that your metabolism goes into overdrive, becoming extremely efficient at burning off calories.
You will feel 10x better by eating smaller, more frequent meals. Your energy level will soar and your hunger cravings will be destroyed.

This is because eating 5 to 6 meals per day helps maintain a balanced blood sugar level, preventing hunger attacks.

This is in direct contrast to the calorie depriving diets that send your blood sugar levels into havoc, with too many peaks and valleys.
You will also find it easier to build and maintain muscle. The more muscle you develop, the faster your metabolism becomes.

Frequent meals help promote muscle growth by regulating insulin levels and providing a steady flow of amino acids into the muscle cells.

By eating approximately every three hours you are constantly delivering a steady output of insulin, which is necessary for muscle growth and glycogen storage.

Insulin plays a major role in transporting glucose and amino acids into the muscle cells where they can then be used for recovery and muscle growth. Are you starting to see the many benefits of eating 6 meals a day?

Frequent meals also allow for more efficient use of vitamins and minerals. Your body simply becomes much more effective at processing these vital nutrients.

To reap the full benefit of this lifestyle, be sure that you eat on a consistent schedule. This requires a bit of meal planning, but it is certainly worth it. It is very important to get your body into the habit of knowing when it will be supplied with nutrients. This way, your body won't fall into dreaded hunger attacks and cravings. Instead, it will always know that a steady flow of nutrients will soon to be supplied.

The key is to center your diet around lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats.

By eating 5 to 6 small meals per day, you will increase your energy levels, accelerate muscle growth, and speed up your metabolism without storing fat. In fact, frequent eating will actually allow you to eat up to 50% more calories without storing an ounce of it as fat.

To really burn the fat, you will need to combine this healthy eating plan with cardio work and strength training.

By eating frequently you achieve the following:

                          1. Eating frequently prevents hunger pangs and curbs over eating.

                          2. Eating more often keeps your metabolism working quickly so you burn calories more efficiently.

                          3. Food is also absorbed more efficiently and quickly when we eat regularly.

In affect you will feel healthier and have more energy as you will be using your metabolism as nature intended.

This is what healthy dieting is all about:
OK I can eat 5 meals a day how much can I eat?

Here you need to know about portion control.

Eating five times a day means you can eat enough to satisfy you, but its important to know how much you can eat in relation to your body size and there is a very easy way of doing this.

You can count calories, but let's be frank who has the time or inclination to do this?

The trick is to use your hand.

A portion should be the size of your fist or the size of your palm.

                          Want a baked potato?

Get one the size of your fist

                          Want some fish?

Get a portion the size of your palm

                          Eat naturally for healthy dieting

Now you need to eat quality fat carbohydrate and protein.

The trick here is to eat "naturally from the earth" and avoid additives and sugar.

For example, a meal should contain the three groups how about Salmon, brown rice and veagatbles? Or maybe a baked potato Turkey and vegetables?

Follow the above and you can eat 5 meals a day.
f you are in a hurry make your other two meals up before hand, some nice tasty salads (go easy on the dressing) some rice and fish.

                          Other healthy dieting tricks

Make sure you eat breakfast (the most important meal of the day) and get as much fibre as you can, as a lot of it is not absorbed and passes through the body. It also makes you feel full and has generally less calories than other foods.

The other trick is to drink lots of water ice cold. Many hunger pangs are simply thirst pangs, so get plenty of water by drinking it ice cold.

Your body has to heat it to body temperature and you will burn 400 calories a week!

Now you have done the above you will feel healthy and control your weight as nature intended.

Don't forget a bit of exercise and by this we don't mean hours in the gym. Simply do some brisk walking don't take the lift try and walk up the stairs etc

Add in some swimming or cycling twice a week, its not to hard and remember, we were not born to just sit around were active beings.

                          ---

Let me give you a quick explanation of why you should eat more meals per day. Basically, by giving your body a constant supply of food in smaller amounts, it increases your metabolism, and we all know what that means. That's right, weight loss. Just think, just by changing the times and frequency of your meals you can aid in weight loss. That doesn't mean you can eat junk food as your meals, you have to eat reasonably of course.
How much, and how often should you eat? If you are just changing your eating schedule for general health, I suggest eating six meals a day. If you are working out at the gym, or are really physically active, try a seventh meal right after your workout! Below I will outline a general example of a six-meal day.
Remember, don't cut snack foods, chocolates, chips out of your diet completely, take one day a week to have that extra snack to pay yourself for doing so good! just don't over indulge!

                          ---

Eating multiple smaller meals has many health benefits in addition to controlling your appetite. Increased meal frequency stimulates fat burning, improves the bodys use of protein, and preserves lean muscle. A diet consisting of more meals also helps with mental performance by helping you think and process information more effectively, increasing your attention span, and improving your mood.

                          ---

Starting the day after you counted calories, eat 500 calories MORE then you normally do. So, lets pretend that the day you counted calories you counted 2000. For the rest of the week, you would now eat 2500 calories a day. Instead of eating 3 big meals a day or eating all day all the time, spread those calories out over 5-6 smaller meals. Eat one meal every 2 and a half to 3 hours. To get big, you have to eat big! Remember that.

“Eating six smaller meals throughout the day, or eating every four hours, keeps your blood sugar stable and helps maintain your energy longer,” says registered dietitian Judy Holaska of Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network. “Overall, it keeps your body healthier and your brain sharper.”
Finally, waiting too long between meals makes you more likely to overeat late in the day or just before bed. “Night bingeing can lead to excess calorie consumption and unwanted weight gain,” Holaska says.

ummm ok im pretty sure lots of people playing this game are currently or used to be in the military before... also pretty much all of certain players from countries like Finland, where its mandatory.

so my point for that is, stop trashing people that were in the military while you were not. you have no idea what its about, only what you know on TV, which almost all of that is garbage anyway.... so just chill out on the military bashing, whatever your political beliefs are, its not the servicemembers fault the presidents and congress (both of whom YOU the PEOPLE voted in) wants to send them to war

To Geio, you're much better off reading/posting these type of questions on a different forum... such as sherdog.com. Alot of info there. And it's a good thing you left the army... finally used the most important muscle that mathers

Yes SEAL, he sure thinks out of my box, and I don't mind trashing him for that. And I don't care if you support him. It's okay if you support this behaviour, it's a forum after all. Even though I think saying you would gladly blow people up might come close to an infraction.
