You know what's really obnoxious? People who still believe in what that piece of shit president says, you can't obviously think the war has done anything but put financial strain on your country as well as make your country look bad on the world stage. You don't understand anything about foreign policy or the need to avoid conflict with Iran, but then again you seem to be below average intelligence.

Since my country and yours are so interlinked in trade I do give a fuck what happens in November, it serves my interests as a consumer and Canadian but also as someone who has family in the States. I'd like to see your country get off off its knees and start re-investing in your people. I can't say that much about American politics since the major issues should be about improving your country, and naturally since that affects me in no way I don't know much about it. The little I can say is on the issues that can affect me too, and affects the world as a whole, and on those issues I think Obama has much better politics. On a side note: I do know that in a way everything in USA affects the entire world, but that's more indirectly.

One thing that really got to me in this thread was Jerome squishing out a stereotype I had on the South. There were some posts in this thread earlier that unfairly labeled the South as racist. Naturally he does what he can to fend of this bad stereotype of him, and almost everybody he knows RL. I don't think you can shun his defense of his region, and not say anything about those who made the stereotypes in the first place, Kolar. It's like walking up to two guys arguing and telling just one of the to stfu because they are making noise.

Other than that this thread has been a good read up for one wanting to learn more about American politics, I just had to ignore certain posts, but I don't read anything made by certain individuals or the responses given to them.

One question in the end: It was hard to figure out what Ron Paul really stands for since there was so much hype around him on the internet. The guy became a meme for a while. One thing that I kept running into was accusations of racism, and even accusations of a connection with the Ku Klux Klan. Since I didn't read it off somewhere credible (hard to judge that these days), I chose to ignore that since I can't vote in USA anyway. What's the dealio, Jerome?

How the fuck can you say that nobody from USA can say anything about American politics? The world doesn't consist of nations living isolated by itself. When your country is making its presence in several countries and is heavily influenced by politics it's only natural that foreigners forms opinions on what affects themselves and the global structure and stability. On the flip side would you tell an Iraqi citizen to stfu about American politics for wanting a president that withdrew your forces? If you answer yes here I officially denounce my friendship to you.

tl;dr: Nobody would care about American politics if it had no effect on them at all, and as long as USAs politics affects other countries, then the global population gets a right to say something about it.

Considering Canada is your closet neighbor and ally (some days) what happens in our two countries is important. It really goes behind our two borders though, it really does affect the world.

I don't want to harp on the whole south bullshit but they do tend to vote Republican and are generally more Conservative than Northern states. I don't think it's being unrealistic to think that if I was a homosexual or anything but caucasian then I would totally not consider living in some southern states. I think it's a bigger issue than that, even in Canada my homosexual friends and family members (I swear I'm only 40% sure Kolar plays back board dodge-ball) find their lifestyle to be more accepted and tolerated in big cities, predominately these cities being New York, Toronto, etc. If you go to small towns or places where the conservative base is predominant they are less accepting of homosexuals. Once again, personal experience, I'm sure some of you guys don't give a fuck who's fucking what but life is harder in certain areas for certain people.

This is going on personal experience, I'm not trying to say everyone in the south is a closet racist or anti-gay but generally, and this is the main point here I find the North to be a bit more accepting of alternative lifestyles. I respect kind hearted people and intelligent people from the south, Jerome is one example but going on personal experience I would definitely take a long hard look at how tolerant a place was before I'd ever consider living there. Jerome is right though, we can call people that sound like complete morns southern hicks and as soon as they fight back and say something like 'war of northern aggression' we blow the whistle, I'd say to some degree people have been decent about the whole south stereotypes issues and no ones said anything ridiculously stupid or offensive, wait a second I forgot about Scoop.

People use the word 'libertarian' but he was really a republican-circa-1930's. It's not as much as what he's for, as what he was against, which was Big Government (the one thing imo that's worse than Big Business). The racism thing... years ago he gave permission for some dudes to say "ron paul approves this message" on their newsletter, and they later wrote some pretty horrible shit. Paul asked them to remove his approval, but the Media only had to see one copy of the newsletter with the words "ron paul" somewhere near "kill darkie!" and that was enough for them. God forbid a reporter actually do some diligent reporting, especially on something as not-serious as, ohidunno, the fucking presidential ELECTION.

Obama talks a big game...but when it comes down to actual implementation and structure behind the proverbial big game, he just doesn't deliver for me. Time will tell whether he can back up a lot of what he promises.

And Jerome - asking the middle eastern people what they want? That makes logical sense, but what DO they want? For us to get the fuck out? To try to form some kind of cohesive government without our help when the country is in disarray? I'm all for letting them try to figure things out with us playing the role of big bro, but the threat of Iran and other nearby middle eastern countries taking advantage of a very vulnerable Iraq seems likely in that case as well. Like I said before, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. It's like deciding whether to get your hand smashed with a hammer or a brick.
