Georgia isn't part of the European Union, nor is it part of Europe, so that doesnt make us anymore obliged to handle this (I am not saying the US should).

I think the UN is already on this though.

Russia wants a confrontation so it is for the best the West doesn't provide anything more then their backing in name only.

They don't want confrontation, but rather they see that the US lost it's diplomatic bite with our forces squandered in Iraq/Afghanistan. They're basically making the most of the moment to help a Georgian separatist group, favorable to Russia succeed and possibly be annexed to it.

This has nothing to do with American forces already deployed in Iraq and Afganistan. Russia does want to back the separatist right now with force but they also want to justify billions spent on modernizing their military, given that it is the first time since the 90s they've left for foreign soil. They're looking to do as much as they can while the world is still focused on the Olympics starting up.

i think its weird that the US is like "yo Russia, tell those motherfuckers to chill the fuck out" and Russia's like "dude, those mother fuckers are crazy, but you know how it is man, bros before hos."
