I've avoided the subject for a long time now but my teeth have now become so stained from tobacco and coffee that I can't even bare to see my pearly yellows in the mirror. It's beginning to resemble a corn on the cob and I think I have to stop it before it gets out of hand. I'm not sure what method I should use though. So-called whitening toothpaste isn't effective at all; I'm going to have to quit the cigs and caffeine in order for it to work. The professional whitening is a bit pricey but I trust it a lot more than going out to Walgreen's and picking up Crest Whitestrips and letting harmful chemicals go to town. If anyone has any input on the subject, I'd appreciate it. Like what works the best and how white your teeth got blah blah blah.

Way back when I used to wear a clear retainer that covers your teeth. My sister bought some whitening jell. I just filled my retainers and went to sleep, so I ended up ingesting all of it. Sure coffee and tobacco can stain teeth too yellow but bleaching them treating them till they beam with such intensity if they span around opening and closing their mouths they could be a light house is just as bad …
Not only that the spreading obsession with white teeth and the fortunes the pharmaceutical companies make from it so much so that teeth whitening is so common place no one bats an eye lid pisses me off.
There is a spreading peer pressure that unless you have bleached your teeth unnaturally white then they are dirty and I don’t like it at all
Also the vain girls that most likely over do the teeth whitening are the ones inclined to lacquer on the fake tan and huge hoop earrings making them look even more ridiculous … I’ve no idea what they see in the mirror but wtf is that about??In my world,

Don't use Crest whitening strips: they work but they're indeed stuffed with nasty chemicals. My sister used them and a few months later the filling of one of her front teeth broke off. Coincidence? That's for you to decide.
A good (electrical) toothbrush is still the best remedy I think.Comment

I've used Crest Whitestrips and I've never had any problems with them. They work really well too, but it's a pain to sit there with them on for 15 minutes twice a day.
The Listerine Whitening Strips are probably my favorite. They're marketed as being able to dissolve completely, but they don't. They do come pretty close though. Also, you only have to leave them on for about 5 minute. I think they taste a little better than Crest, but I had problems with them on my gums once. It accidentally was on my gum a little bit too much, and my gums started bubbling and turned white. It went away after a few hours though. ^-^Pandagirl!

that reminds me of the listerine breath strips, I used to use those all the time back in my first year of college- I have no idea why I stopped using them.My father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. I do brush my teeth btw. So vigorously that I end up bruising my gums on occasion. My teeth are healthy, it's just they're yellow. I just want a shade or two whiter. Nothing too drastic.Comment
