I would just like to point out that no Americans are getting involved in the actual discussion that's going on here (just the few that are saying Canada sucks), maybe this sentiment should be returned when us Americans are discussing our country and its politics.TWDT Head Op Seasons 2, 3, and 4

how about we just say there are idiots on both sides and let the canadians get back to their government talkMy father in law was telling me over Thanksgiving about this amazing bartender at some bar he frequented who could shake a martini and fill it to the rim with no leftovers and he thought it was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I then proceeded to his home bar and made four martinis in one shaker with unfamiliar glassware and a non standard shaker and did the same thing. From that moment forward I knew he had no compunction about my cock ever being in his daughter's mouth.

I like you dude, but there's way too many assholes on this forum.
I'd argue that Canadians generally think a lot better of your country then the rest of the world. You guys are like that friend that comes over without calling, pisses on our floor when drunk, and borrows MONEY but never pays it back. I gotta say it's really hard for us to like you (as a country, not as a people or person).it makes me sick when i think of it, all my heroes could not live with it so i hope you rest in peace cause with us you never did

even though i don't particularly like harper, dion and his gang of friends are wasting taxpayer's money in making a friggin coalition right in the middle of a recession.
the people of canada should be the one's who decide who is PM, not a group of MP's who suddenly decide, even though defeated 6 weeks ago, that they want to overthrow the conservatives.
i also am annoyed at the fact that the separatists getting a cut from this.
dion keeps on accusing harper of just wanting to hold on to his job, but shouldn't everyone want to hold on to their job, especially in the recession?

The BQ have no interest in governing Canada or getting in the way of either the Liberals or the NDP in doing so. I also do not see their movement being strengthened by any of this, they're a progressive movement and a Liberal/NDP coalition would probably move more towards the left. So the BQ will probably find themselves agreeing more with that Government over this current Government, even if they fundamentally disagree over federalism. They have also agreed to 18 months of stability where they would not defeat the coalition if they are able to form a Government.
Edit: And as for wasting money, the last election was called by Harper, his minority Government wasn't defeated. That costs us 300 million dollars. And now in the middle of very turbulent economic times and without the majority he was seeking, he tries to push through some heavy ideology nonsense in an attempt at a power grab believing the opposition was at their weakest right now.
Not wanting to be known as the only federal Government in the last 15-20 years which has run a deficit, and any kind of stimulus for the economy was going to be expensive he wanted to be in a better political position to deliver one. And to do that they had to deliver it during an election where they could effectively attack the opposition's take on any kind of stimulus, this last election's theme being only about leadership. If he failed to do so; just blame the opposition for befouling democracy, they had no "mandate" (whatever the hell that means), the big scary BQ is gonna eat us alive!.Last edited by Kolar; 12-04-2008, 06:19 AM.

First, what taxpayer funds are being wasted by the formation of a coalition? All it entails is a couple of parties agree to support each other. You aren't paying a dime for that. What you did pay for was the October election that Harper called for, to the tune of $300 million.
Second (and a slight correction on what Kolar posted) , the Canadian public does NOT select the Prime Minister. That task falls on the Governor General Michaƫlle Jean, whose job is to choose the PM based on who she feels has the best support of the MPs, who are publicly elected. In other words, the order of who decides on who becomes PM goes: 1) Governor General; 2) the MPs; 3) Canadian voters. And if you still want to go back to the "will of the people" argument, the Liberals and NDP combined for 44% of the popular vote, compared to 38% the Conservatives received. And it's the duly elected representatives of that 44% that are deciding to form a coalition. Don't believe the junk the Conservatives are selling that this is "undemocratic". This is an example of democracy at work.
UPDATE: The Governor General has decided to prorogue Parliament, suspending any action including the possibility of a confidence vote, until January 26. Hopefully this will give the Conservatives, as well as the other parties, time to do what their actual mandate given by Canadian voters, to work together to get things done.Last edited by Troll King; 12-04-2008, 01:44 PM.
