I've been at my internship for several weeks now, it's been going alright, everyone is firendly and people see me working 10+ hours a day for free. I sit at a cubicle, there's two people I work closely with who are anchors for a newscast in a local city. My job has been to edit, shoot, and write stories, I've worked my ass off to do as much as I can including writing stories, taking stills (photog), etc, etc.
Anyways, I got bitched out for the first time by one of them. I'm an intern, so I shut my mouth and let them bitch cause I figured she was having a bad day, anyways I go back to work and I need to transfer a file from one of their computers to mine. I got setup with the crappiest MAC in the office, so its essential for me to transfer data/files from their computers to the desktop at my desk or my macbook.
So I go up to one of the computers to transfer a file and I see MSN open, it's a conversation with the two anchors who sit in front of me. Anyways, I go to minimize it so I can transfer files and see them bashing me via the conversation. I minimize it, get the files, and go back to my desk. About half an hour later the person comes back sees that I've transfered the files and minimized the programs she had open to get access to my files. I can tell she's pissed, she comes up to me again and randomly bitches about a voiceover I did in a story, and I'm thinking you two spend 3-4 hours a day talking, whether it's them whispering in front of me or online. I also work shitty hours, I'm out in the community filming from Thursday to Sunday, then when Monday rolls around they get pissed cause we have 6-7 stories and I can't cut all of them. However, it's there job to cut stories. They're not mad that I film, they actually encourage it but they want me to do double shifts to film, write, and edit the packages together. It's also sad because with other people taking footage (might be weak viz, but still) have the ability to produce 4-5 stories a day which would make the newscast A HELL OF A LOT less boring.
Currently the company spends (no lie) Between $100,000-$150,000 to produce a Web cast that gets between 200-300 hits each day. I got the numbers to back this up...Did I mention that there's almost 1 Million people in my city? Not even 1% of our population tunes into the newscast, it's just bleeding money. I think the main problem is that they have no visuals, and the newscast is tremendously boring listening to someone talk for 5-10 minutes without seeing any pictures. At the very least you need a graphic over the shoulder of the person.

They're lazy as fuck and don't want to edit anything, they have two anchors for a 10 minute newscast... neither of them leave the office to report, it just doesn't make sense. I'd like to say something, but I'm not sure. It's a tough situation, and I don't want to burn bridges. Media is a small industry, and chances are you know someone who knows someone.
