my thoughts on the matter essentially echo mr. 420's. and i, too, would be more than happy to share my experiences and offer insight, but in private. discussing such things openly on these forums just leads to kids being kids with a whole mess of needless ridicule. just hit me up with a forum pm.
fyi, i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in late 2003. in the time since, i have run the gamut concerning the various medications available, from anti-depressants to anti-psychotics to anti-anxiety agents and even some lithium. i have also been committed to several psychiatric wards. i have seen many different counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists. i have participated in support groups. i've read just about an entire library's worth of material on the subjects of bipolar disorder and depression. basically, i have a lot of experience to share if you really want someone to talk to. the absolute worst thing about depression is the isolation it creates, that feeling that you're completely alone and no one understands. trust me, there are people out there who do understand.
most importantly, i just want to reiterate that everything mr. 420 said is right on the money. hope springs eternal. it truly does.jasonofabitch loves!!!!

Im afraid i have to be pessimistic
if a person does exercise, they might get the endorphin activity the equal to about 1/8th of one vicodin pill, where as the amount that fights depression is the equal to about 3 or 4 vicodin pills
this means exercise is about 32 times too weak to have an effect on depression, even if its swimming. no wonder exercise doesnt help.
I tried 40 prescription antidperessants and psychiatrics and 50 supplements and others with no help, i am now going to try L-Dopa and Picamilon.

drugs, by themselves, are not the answer. you need to couple drug therapy with psychotherapy. you need support. you need guidance. you need a friend (or friends) to talk to and hang out with. you need love. you need a shoulder to cry on. the list goes on and on.
i tried countless times to get over my "issues" by simply popping a handful of whatever pills some doctor told me to take. it doesn't work.jasonofabitch loves!!!!

there is a depression that exists where the depression is as much physiological as the hallucinations from schizophrenia are, as the falling unconscious of narcolepsy is
so you get how we are talking about too separate things by now im sure because you ant be that dumb
you cant just say "oh well yes theres narcolepsy, schizophrenic hallucinations and 100 other brain disorders but theres no such thing as 1 that causes depression and 100% of depression is psychologic"
there is a depression thats 100% physiologic just like the hallucination hearing voices of schizophrenia is 100% physiologic.
You dont get what depression is, its not emotional, it has nothing to do with thoughts - its a sick feeling in the spine, brainstem, and base of the brain, combined with shaky hands and a dysphoric malaise feeling thats like a head flu. you can feel the feeling reduce in intensity if you take an opioid, or a very specific drug that affects the limbic system
you are talking about emotional issues, im not. im talkingabout something thats like eye color, like dyslexia or narcolepsy or down syndrome in its nature- its super fixed and super brain-based

i totally agree that, at its core, depression is a purely physiological problem. honestly though, how many cases of depression do you know of that are simply a straight up case of bad wiring? if you tell me that you know, with certainty, of a person who exhibits the symptoms of depression, and yet that person has not experienced some sort of cognitive/emotional trigger to bring on the depression, i'm going to call you a liar. the physiological and psychological sides of depression are intricately entwined. in absolutely no way are they exclusive.
and frankly, we just don't know enough about the brain to say that chemical imbalances and the like are the sole contributing source of a patient's symptoms.
you're vastly oversimplifying the issue, tone.jasonofabitch loves!!!!

i agree with jason to an extent. from what i have been told and what i have researched, certain disorders, such as depression, are a lot like homosexuality. the modern scientific consensus is that there are genetic tendencies. some people are more apt for depression than others strictly based upon their genetic makeup. i believe paranoia falls into this category as well. but that does not mean than all who have the physiological tendencies necessarily fall into depression. there are some circumstantial requirements. however some disorders, such as schizophrenia, are entirely physiological (to the extent of our current knowledge). i will research more tmrw morning, but this is the general concepts i got from the last time i researched. the main positive to get from this is that while you can be 80% screwed physiologically, circumstance and will can make at least some difference to lower the severity of your depressive or paranoid state.TWDT Head Op Seasons 2, 3, and 4
