Never had a porsche and I know that big people can fit in some cars, but honestly having a truck is just easier, especially for the outdoors stuff I do. Ever gone down a hunting trail to a cabin in a porsche before? Im sure I would use both if I had them but I don't so.

Am sure the Cayenne would do quite well on backroads and trails, but I wouldn't buy a Porsche SUV

Just to clarify, the Porsches I have are old (`64 & `88) ...back when the engine was in the rear and air cooled and not the water cooled front engine versions we have today. I was just noting that it is a very roomy and comfortable car for long rides...and they do great in the snow too with that Bavarian engineering.

I would use a truck as well in the situation and locations you drive.

The Cayenne, but i wouldnt even call that a porsche, its a rebadged VW Touareg.

The Panamera, this is the only one I can think of, everything else is still rear engined.

porsches would get rocked in some of the rugged areas of texas. Nearly anywhere else in the country, I would drive a porsche. even if it meant keeping it clean and shiny 24/365

Those listed are the front engine. The other side to my dislike on the rear engine...I probably didn't word that part correct in prior posts, was when Porsche went to water cooled over air cooled engines, such as the 911 as a prime example.

also forgot about the 924, stupid vw sports car concept.

always thought the 944 and 968 were "mid engined" like the Boxster.

Whats you guys' opinion on a Pontiac Solstice. My brotha has that...and its pretty slick. This guy modded it somewhat, put in an intake and changed the exhaust. Sounds like a beast, even though it is a small car.

I was planning to pich in with him to buy a used corvette engine. Maybe an older model z06 engine and drop that in there. I think it was coming to about $9000 for the engine alone. The labour work is gonna be intense too. If and when that happens, the solstice will fly as it is quite small of a car.

Since thread topic seems to have changed, I’ll toss some ‘alternative’ ideas out for you guys.

Buy a Studebaker, I’ve owned and restored 9 over the years. Studebaker still holds the record for being in business longer than any other automobile manufacturer. They had a huge amount of ‘firsts’ and were considered very much a ‘techie’ company, overdrive transmissions in the 1920s, Hill Holder in the 1930s, first to open an engineering proving ground in 1937, automatic transmissions in 1950, front disk brakes in 1963, fiberglass bodies 1963, etc.
But their styling was always notable, and they produced some pretty cool designs. Here are some of Studes that would not only be a great investment today, but would put you in a car that gets noticed and guarantees no one else in town owns.


1939 Studebaker Coupe Express
The first true ‘El Camino’, with side mounts!! Built on a car chassis, rides very well. Very few built, marketed towards California strawberry farmers who needed to haul but wanted a soft ride. Did I mention that it has classy looking side mounts?


1953 Studebaker Starliner Coupe
Ranked as one of the best car designs in the 1950s. Fast in a straight line, but weight distribution issue prevent good handling at high speeds. Classy design, find a rough one and build a custom like this one. Find a good one and do a frame-off original restoration for a great investment.


1956 Studebaker Hawk
This is one I restored, in front of my house, got paid $3200 (cash) for letting them use it in the film ‘Dirty Dancing’. V-8 rear wheel power, woot.

Fastest production car in 1963, broke 72 official stock car records at Bonneville. Some models developed an incredible 575 hp with a top speed of 196mph.

A ricer can be any model.

Not where i come from... A ricer reers to a car that runs on rice ( honda, toyota) and they usually don't get that designation unless they put a soupcan on the exhaust tip to make that high pitch whiney sound. (Fast and Furious styles).
