my street finally got plowed this evening

last year was a lot worse.

on christmas eve 08 it took me 4 hours to make a 45 mile drive home from school, and there were dents in snow drifts next to sidewalks from where people had fallen every 4-5 feet.

this year is a piece of cake. Several schools in northern michigan require snow shoes along with textbooks/supplies, etc.

this winter i have yet to retire my boat shoes for the winter on my 8 am, 2 mile walk to class every morning.

this snow is pissing me off. i'm in the greater philly area. i grew up further north and am totally used to lots of snow, except up there we know how to handle it. the municipal and state road crews down this way don't have a fucking clue how to handle a storm. it's not entirely their fault as they don't have the equipment or the manpower standing by to handle a storm that drops two feet of snow overnight. however, they're just plain fucking idiots, too.

it's taken an entire week for them to even half-ass plow some of the main streets in my town. the public lot where i generally park my car is largely impassable. it hasn't been touched. and guess what? you can't park on the street because the streets aren't hardly cleared either.

i don't think the municipal crews have even heard of salt or sand. they fell wayyy behind on plowing and so a majority of the snow just got packed down into a hard crust from all the traffic. that hard crust is still hanging around, only somewhat melting on its own here and there, which has turned every road into a swiss cheese pile of bumpy nastiness. i thought my car was going to shake itself apart the other day, and i was only going about 5mph.

tired of this shit already. can't wait for spring!
