come to think of it, that looks like the size of my apartment, and i pay $1200/mo for it without a contract (old school italian landlord = fucking awesome)

Land value my dear ... the average house price in the area I have bought is about A$730k to be conservative & my house is very close to the train station that has direct services to the city.

Unfortunately real estate is like the musical chair, you know the music will stop eventually. I am just hoping the property price here does not go down in the next 5 years. <_<

I am only in the second highest tax rate bracket ... with the marginal tax rate of 40% last financial year. But after tax I am as poor as a rat.

P.S. why do they call it 'doing your tax return' when after I have done my tax return, I have to pay a couple of grand more tax?!

Being Dutch, I know all about land costs being expensive. But the house that is on it should still count and that house doesn't look to be worth 600k

That would run over a million if it was in Monterey, Santa Monica or Laguna areas...even more if that was on Balboa Island in CA. Land is worth more than the house in most cases.

I don't have any pictures since I have only bought it and the renovation has not even started yet.

But I still manage to find some pictures posted for the advertisement when the house was on the market.

The place I have bought is around 600k A$ and is a house in a decent area. Two draw backs are: 1) it is a timber house 2) It is on a main road, so it is fairly noisy.

I often think to myself that it's better that L1T2R3 and TagMor keep posting on the forums because at least their posts add something to the discussion, whether it's something inane or something I completely disagree with because at least I have a reaction to it. What the fuck did you just write? There is nothing there that I can even start to reply to aside from "tits or gtfo".
