How does one even go about buying this stuff?

If I wanted to invest $100,000 in the stock market, I just have to click a few buttons. It's pretty hard to buy that much of a commodity as I would have to somehow acquire it physically (at greatly inflated prices from what the 'market price' is) and store the stuff safely. Gold is relatively easier to buy because at least it costs a LOT more so you need a lot LESS of it. It's not like I can just store $100,000 of silver in my living room, or conversely buy like 1,000 barrels of oil knowing that oil is going up or something.

From what I understand, normal people can't really invest in futures either, it's a closed market to most people.

So while all the talk about buying certain precious commodities are fun to talk about, is it really practical?

And anyone know the tax implications of this? I know currency trades can't be taxed, can commodities be taxed as a capital gain? And even currencies need to rise substantially for you to make any money because if you buy and sell currency like a normal person does from a bank they charge a hefty profit (you'd lose ~%10).

Today it's sitting at $29.60, having gone from $18 two months ago, and it's set to go $50+ by the end of the year.
Silver is both an industrial and precious metal. For the first time in world history there is more gold in the world than silver. China is set to increase it's silver consumption dramatically.
JP Morgan and HSBC are currently being sued for manipulating (suppressing) the price of silver. JP Morgan also holds the most silver derivatives on the planet.

Not only could you triple your money within the next 2 years, buying precious metals defies modern economic models, and basically undermines all of the rich banker fucks who want to stick microchips inside your body.
You will not make money doing this, you will simply freeze inflation of any money you convert to physical silver, if inflation takes full effect domestically. If you sell Silver at 60 dollars will get you 60 dollars thats worth what 30 was worth before when you bought

its freezing inflation rather than making profit.

If you buy directly from mints they usually sell at the market price. There can be a small admin fee, and the only other cost is postage/courier which is insignificant.
There are many ways to store it. Organisations can offer allocated storage, where you lease room in a large depository. Most banks offer safety deposit options. There are also options for unallocated shares or contracts between large traders and/or producers (mints).
$100,000 worth of silver, at current prices, would only be roughly 2 of the bars pictured below.

Inflation isnt quite that bad, and if it ever was we will be as Vat put it "mad max meets thunderdome", and precious metals will still be far more valuable than paper currency. In any case I plan on selling at the right time and buying as much farming land as possible.
Booming population growth, Asian economies, and rise of bio-fuels = food prices about to go ballistic. Farmers will be the new aristocracy. You can come visit me at my house.. under the sea.

You can buy a etfs (exchange traded funds which are similar to mutual funds) linked to the price of silver. The largest one is: http://investing.money.msn.com/inves...st/?symbol=SLV

Google "silver etf" for more info.

                      nope. sadface.
But silver is bound to recover. Read my original post. Demand for silver is only going to increase and supply is rapidly decreasing. I dont know what has caused this drop but I am pretty sure it is temporary.

$50+ by the end of the year... perhaps a lot more. I will buy you dinner and a harbour motel room.

Not that bad with domestics because of china devaluing their own currency, holding dollars and making the cheap products. So, various dollar-general & walmart items didnt quite double in price like silver, and silver may reach 50 dollars with these products staying the same or going up only a little at first, but watch out there-after unless theres certain action taken to prevent hyper-inflation. The international market & international commodities responds before the every day products at domestic stores.

Silver is Money, not a product that truly lowers and rises in value like collectors items., silver & gold change price because its post 1971 and no other reason, before then they were a fixed value and a dollar could also be known as a unit of weight.

If the economy continues to survive then the value of precious metal will fluctuate.
If paper currency shits itself then buying silver is preserving one's wealth.
                            It's win win.

if you dont listen to TagMor now you will temporarily regret it. Silver is better than Gold since its undervalued still even at this relatively 'high' price
