science does not tell you facts. math and logic tell you facts (and btw, science isn't the most logical thing out there, science hardly ever deals in logic). science tells you likelihoods and tendencies.

Based upon fossil evidence and other factors we can conclude that there is an extreme likelihood that they existed, however there is no certainty in that matter. (THAT IS A SCIENTIFIC STANCE). Actually I check the forums from work because my job is boring, and my wife plays with him when she gets home which is about an hour after I get home so hes busy either in day care or with my wife while I peruse the forums. Science is based off of theories, not facts. Things exists because of the theories we have prescribed to it. You see now when we are using more advanced technologies to observe things, we are altering what we believe were facts because of the theories that are being questioned. So these polar shifts being observed through lava sediments helps build up one of strongest theories of the magnetic poles shifting through time, but it does not state as fact that the magnetic poles where the reason why the lava sediments are the way they are.
