Taking your points into account, you seem to think that one half of Glasgow was full of Union flags and people singing "Rule Britannia." That only happens during a Rangers home game, thankfully.

Checked BBC and there was an unofficial party held in Kelvingrove Park(http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotlan...-west-13241657) and it all kicked off. To be honest that's what usually happens on a sunny day here anyway.

I don't give a shit about this, but to be fair I don't give a shit about celebrities, athletes, politicians or anyone else anymore than my neighbor either. I could honestly give a fuck less about any of them or what they do or what they did.

So we've ditched the money and lifestyle argument and are now on to how it is ethically corrupt to be born into a life of privilege. I propose a new, fairer system. Upon birth you are giving a lottery ticket. The result of the draw will determine your wealth, social status and general success in life. However that is also down to luck, so we'll make it a competition of some kind. But then we'll be dominated that those who have a certain physical or intellectual trait. Instead let's scrap all of that and make everyone equal. We'll invent a system called FUNNUNISM. Everyone will be equal, everyone will share. Brother Dimitri can work the plough whilst Brother Oleg can harvest the crops. We'll have a Non-Colour Specific Army (don't want to be racist) to enforce our ideas and anyone who contradicts will be thrown in the FUN PALACE.

Obviously I'm taking this to the extreme but the point I'm making is that people will always be advantaged or disadvantaged because of when/where/to whom they are born. Your argument is that they have a massively advantaged position because of the circumstances of their arrival on this planet. Yes. Certain kids in the developing world don't stand a chance whilst a staunch anti-monarchist and a moderately pro-monarchist can have an ultimately pointless debate on the internet because we have arrived at a situation where we have access to computers and a keyboard to waste time into.

You will always have people born into more desirable situations. They should be judged on what they do with the opportunity not how they got there. If they've arrived in this situation through no fault of their own and work to promote various charities and further our national interests then good luck to them. I'd note that a number of people have arrived in positions of power through hard work and haven't exactly had a stellar track record. See: Syria, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, etc. Your view of the monarchy as a group of people who play polo 24/7 and drill 'the fine bitches of abercrombie and fitch' might not be completely accurate. And I liked the point that we have the royal family and have to close health clinics as a result. Like the two are mutually exclusive yet intrinsically linked and there are no other sources of income or expenditure in our economy. George Osbourne: "So Dave, start of another tax year and we still have the monarchy. Which maternity wards shall we axe this year?"

i actually watched the coverage live (dont ask) and i thought the wedding was cool, but alot of the commentary was borderline tragic. basically a bunch of sad, most likely single women talking about the most useless shit. they would point out things and say "how plain!" or "how common!" and try to guess what different people would be wearing before they arrived. some of the commentators were basically just circle-jerking, "and yes i know what it feels like to be in that abbey, when i was 6 i blah blah blah royal connections blah" and talking way too much about princess diana.

Celtic have traditionally drawn their support from the Catholic community, Rangers Protestant. Neil Lennon is a Protestant from Northern Ireland managing Celtic, the Catholic club.

In Northern Ireland there are two rival factions over the issue of governance. Half the people feel Northern Ireland should remain part of the UK. They are loyalist, overwhelmingly Protestant and are big fans of their current governors and heads of the Protestant faith, the royal family. The other faction are Republicans who, as the name suggests, feel Northern Ireland should be part of the independent Republic of Ireland. They're catholic and not so big on the monarchy (who once denounced the Catholic pope, burnt their monasteries and set up the independent Church of England).

Scotland and Northern Ireland are closely linked due to their geographic proximity and common celtic heritage. The fact that Neil Lennon has chosen to align himself with the Catholic team has not gone down well with the Protestant half. They have also ignored the fact he isn't making a political statement, he's just managing a football team.

In the past Lennon has been sent death threats and posted bullets as a warning. In the last few weeks police have intercepted an explosive advice posted to him.

So yes, people above Reading care about the monarchy.

I think people don't like Kings of Jordan or Libya or Africa because Kings are usually dictators, the disparity of their wealth to anyone else is unconscionable, and even if they were great and generous kings, the idea of having a king is outdated. We have evolved to democracies and Republics which is a good thing because decisions reached by consensus are usually more inclusive.
you say this, haha, but the system with the Kings and Queens is far more inclusive than our system - take a look at their health care.

Their lifestyle is undeserved; some kids are born into billionaire estates but at least their father or grandfather or somewhere down the line someone has earned it. I'm not seeing that in the royal family. Of all the Western nations, the ones that have done a lot of evil shit like colonialism and the new-Colonialism we see now-a-days, they did one great thing and that was move on from Feudalism and Monarchies. This remnant is a living monument. Make a statue of King George if you think he was so great, but I'm pretty sure the Monarchy lost political power for a reason (people were fed up with it), so why keep honoring them? It;s like if we let Abraham Lincoln's children live in a palace and get paid for existing so people could come watch the guards at their house and try to make them flinch.
Us Americans have a difficult time understanding why they keep a figurehead monarchy because our history starts in like, the 17th century. During the same time period, England was already a global power. Much was done under the reign of kings and queens - culturally, economically, etc - and so England's history is directly intertwined with that particular institution. It's a tradition that goes back forever.

Do I think they should get rid of the figureheads? Maybe, but do I understand why the English still continue to recognize the monarchs? Yes.

In the words of Jerry Seinfeld

"It's a circus act, it's an absurd act... It's dress-up. It's a classic English thing of let's play dress-up. Let's pretend that these are special people.
