I would like to open a discussion dedicated to our beloved Ship number 6. Weasels. Cloakers, X's. Everyone seems to have quite a different view on them, and I've noted that most opinions seem to be negative (Forgive me for stating the obvious.) Now, as some people that have played with me know, Weasel is my favorite ship.
Why? Well, I like that I can be invisible to most players. I can move past people without them even knowing. I like that I can weave in and out of the holes in the base, and the part which I expect will draw most controversy; I like that it's challenging to play.
Weasel is challenging, you say? Well, if you’re trying to kill one person, then it’s not very difficult. Engage cloak and stealth, get relatively close and rocket ‘em. “EZ”, as they say. However, it’s a whole different story when you’re trying to keep killing different people while staying alive yourself. After someone dies to a Weasel almost everyone in the area will fire randomly in the general direction you were in, hoping to hit. If you stay in the same place after you get a kill, somewhere between 25% and 50% of the time, perhaps, they’ll come rushing back in a Terrier to try to kill you. Some will just change back to their other ship if you get away, but many will hunt.
Why is this? If I was to launch a Javelin bomb down the tube and kill them, why don’t they hunt me, then? Would it be “more fair” if someone took a Javelin bomb into their cockpit than getting struck by a Weasel? If I go on a private frequency and Shark mine the main entrance to base, at 300 bounty, I get hunted less than I do as a Weasel with 50. People seem so fuelled by hatred of Weasels that if I kill someone once or twice in one, they’ll go out of their way, playing a ship they don’t even like, in order to hunt my Weasel down. The people that usually get struck by Weasels are usually the ones that are strays, anyway. If people are afraid of Weasels, why don’t they just stay close to a Terrier, or fly in open space, where Weasels are unlikely to be?
Now the “I don’t care what people say” part, in my opinion, it takes skill to get (practically) on top of an enemy ship when you don’t move as fast as them, cloaked or not. Taking into account that 3 out of 8 ships have X-Radar, there’s plenty of detection around, it’s just that people often forget to use it. This is not the fault of the Weasel pilot. The Weasel pilot simply uses it to his or her advantage. What if Levi’s forgot that they had their blue bomb? Or what if Sharks forgot they had mines? It’s the same principle; the fault of the other pilot gets exploited.
No one will read this if I put much more, anyway, so I’ll end here. I’m sure other points will be brought up. I’d like to request that this is kept to an intelligent debate, instead of a “weasels sux u noob” argument.
I think I may be asking a bit much with that, though.
Anyway, discuss.
