Splitting tourny can do a lot of things.

With double the space, the maps could change. Many people complain about the size of the wb tourny maps, that there's not enough room for skill. You could double, or maybe even quadruple the map size for wbs (since there's never too many).

You can't always have a friend around, and sometimes you're gonna have to get a random teammate. Many people (javs especially, since it's a little harder to pick up) get stuck with a teammate that doesn't have a clue what they're doing, and lose their more than worthwhile stake in the tournament because of it. Splitting tourny won't eliminate this completely, but it'll drastically reduce it.

It's possible lots of players avoid tourny because they aren't guaranteed that they'll be playing what they want, so I don't know if a split would cause a huge size change. Javs seems to be more popular, so it's unlikely they'll suffer much, and maybe many of the wbs who don't like javs will show up because they know they'll be playing a wb tourny.

What about the other random picks the bot makes, like ABS or LT tournies?

As much as I love LT tournies, I don't know if there is a place for these. And the AFS/ABS ones are just a joke. If you don't do away with them entirely, you could just throw them in with the maps they are made for, I guess.

I know a lot of people are against this, but I think it's worth a one-weekend test if nothing else, just to see how it functions. If it's bad, ditch it.

That's actually a really good idea. Only one problem. In ?go tourny, and sometimes in ?go duel the radar is screwed up when being a warbird, and trying to rush. Fix that first.

It's not screwed, but because it's so close to the edge of the map, the radar first follows you, then it moves after leaving the edge of the map.

Hehe, if you took out all the rocks in wb boxes, and placed all the boxes at the edges of the map, people would get so disoriented and dizzy they'd be hypnotized into playing forever!

Forcing the players to play either Jav or WB causes both tournaments to be small, and not as fun either. As well, you could not create a tourny with Jav/WB and another with the extra games, as the tourny with the extra games would recieve very little popularity, and the Jav/WB tourny would still be disputed. Until the tournament gets to the point where people are not able to play because it is to max capacity, I believe the tournament should stay as one.

I think that most people prefer one ship over the other. Willing to play and wanting to play are two very different things. And a lot of people will vote and not play when it's not the result they want.

Read what I said before. In theory, with people knowing for sure what type of tourny they are going to be playing, it could feasible increase the size of both tournaments.

Agreed. I didn't bring that up before because that really is the worst idea ever.

I think them being not split might be hindering the growth of tourny. The only way to know for sure is to try it out.

You know what though Ignominy, we both are right and we both are wrong. We could talk about this subject for hours or days, but we won't really know unless its tried. There is no harm in trying it either, because if it doesn't work then the regular system could be reverted back to normal. There is no way to know if this will work or fail unless is tried.

There is not enough people to split it. Often tourny has 20 people playing. Who wants to do a tourny with 10 people?
