I agree with Space_Hiker and whoever else said that pub was so great few years ago. Everyone starts there, and I remember how insane it used to be with the levterrs. You would get huge bounty and then have people hunt you. Great times. Go back to the basics. You can have 1 pure pub, but the rest should be what they used to be.

.?go base can't really change, I guess better organization so that games just don't die. Also, new people get a chance to play... should be a system for that.

Q: Why are Dock> and Priitk still the SysOps if they're only around once in blue moon? I still remember when Dock and Arilou actually played. Don't you think that the people (ultimately) in charge of the zone should be an active part of it?

Priitk is the zone owner, he doesn't take on any in-game responsibilities. DoCk>, Ari and Lnx; the same deal, they're inactive and not likely to return. As far as I know we don't rely on them for anything critical in the zone anymore (DoCk> still hosts the TW Team Speak server for example). Pure_Luck is the current Sysop and is still active in the zone the same with the rest of upper staff. There are other people who have taken over Ari's job in public map development and his Sysop access uploading maps.

Space Hiker has absolutely the right idea. Making general, abstract statements is not the advice needed in this thread, we need pragmatic ideas with solid logic behind them. I agree that TW needs to create a buzz, and once again, like Space Hiker said, that can only be achieved by evolving some fundamental parts of the zone. Shipsets need to be altered, new ideas need to come to the forefront.

I lack the technical knowledge to speak on this with any authority, but I know what makes sense to me, and evolution makes a whole lot of sense. Mind you, it doesn't need to change the whole zone's identity (that would be REvolutionary), just an improvement on what the zone has, with enough spice to turn some heads.

Some other good ideas I support are focusing on events that keep in line with TW's core gameplay, and not these crazy events with so many unique aspects that you mine as well be playing in a different zone. Those are okay very sparingly, but the more "normal" events really need the attention.

Maybe another idea would be to make the way the staff works more transparent for players. I've been playing this game forever, and I still don't really know the politics behind the game, and where the power lies. It all seems very much a nepotist system more than anything.

To close, I basically did what I myself said not to do, which is to provide vague feedback with no real concrete solutions, but I'll leave that to people more knowledgeable than myself to figure out.

When they made people incharge that mostly dont care about other's but themself's .
I was banned for a year !!
If i was incharge and someone cheated even with worst kinds of cheats i would ban him for a Week and when he returns ban him again for a week .
After a while he would get the point .
But why throw a guy that plays every day and brings loads of friends to the game, build squads, dd's, plays elim ..
Just throw him out for a year which means he prob' wont ever play again ?
If you wanna keep somthing first of all let the people that love the game stay .

What exactly makes you think that people who don't cheat, never have and never will, do not bring their friends to play the game? And what to tell a new guy anyway? Last but not least, if you indeed were in charge of TW and you'd ban a cheater for a week repeatedly, the most you would teach him is that if he cheats he gets a week off. In your case the lesson sits, I hope.

What are u talking abot ?
people that know how to use cheat engines and other cheats also know how to evade a ban easy . what about 2 computers at home ?
I have 2 computers and can play whenever i choose without taking the effort of going to lengths to trick the ban .
Also .... I have found long ago the method in which the ban works,and also the netban .
I also once thought of spilling it but someone told me if i do it, it would end trench and the game completly .
IF u were me and was banned for 1 year you would be furious and tell anyone u can .

Now u can say "wow, if ur so smart go in the game and say its me israeli i evade the ban "

I just wanted them to give me the damn ban and when its over to come back . I recieved a 3 month or so ban which was ok in a way .
But a year ban would send most people angry with revenge on their mind .

I think you are too young to fully understand the ethics behind banning a player, and the true reasons for banning a player.

You sure as hell sound like it.

Banning a player every week is pointless. He'll just keep cheating, you will just keep on banning. It would be a never-ending cycle.

Only part that I can agree with, is that it really truly sucks that if you want to play a simple game of elim and you can't because you are banned.

But then again, there was a REASON you were banned, and it seems you were banned more than once. You obviously didn't learn the first time you were banned, now you are here regretting it? Whats the point of letting you play again? So that you can cheat again, and just get banned for a year then come and tell us how it sucks?

Pointless.

This game needs some serious advertising to save it, nothing else. You can implement the greatest features into a game, but it will do no one ANY good if people out there don't even know this game even EXISTS to begin with..

People don't know it exists, simple as that. There are 6 billion ppl on this planet, a minimum of 1 billion who have access to the internet.

Even if this game sucked MAJOR BALLS, you would have a good 5,000 people playing it simply because those 5,000 like the way it plays (as much as it would suck).

There is little to nothing being done in terms of getting the games name out there, as it was before.

P.S.

I'm not saying you can reach all 1 billion of those players, im saying even if you reach ONE percent of those players, you'll get a population better than a 500 peek.

New players are so important to this zone/game and when i go into pub i see..hmm.. lets say 100hours-players shouting and whining to enw players that they suck and so, I wouldnt like that, Without new players only 'old' players last here, And therefor the zones population will not grow jsut get worse.

then look up subspace/continuum in the "games of the month" section, it has continuum voted as #1 game of the month in both 2000 and 20001, and i tried it because i saw it at the top of the list with such a high rating

I'll try to give a recap of some of the recurring items in this thread:

- Too many "side" events are available at any given time, their "specialness" wears off and spreads the players thin, so pubs and elim aren't as enjoyable. Events should not be hosted all the time, pub and elims should be the main focus. (This will usually be followed by the .?go javs discussion, which is a tricky point, only thing I can think of is to kick afkers in this arena so its population won't be that big)

- Game could be promoted on "free multiplayer games" sites again, apparently people actually look on those.

- Too many restrictions at the moment, whether it is the 36 hour rule in elim or the ship restrictions in pub, unbalanced gameplay might actually promote playing as long as it is not totally broken.

- I saw some positive feedback about my idea for a tutorial arena (and indeed exalt, when I had access to internet to play games the continuum client was just out instead of the original subspace version, so I have never seen this tutorial thing, but it sounds like it is a loss). If more "positive" feedback comes it might be worth it to make it a thread on its own to judge its feasibility.

Furthermore the discussion about staff, but from the conflicting viewpoints and the lack of solid arguments I don't think there is a consensus about this.

When you log into Trench Wars, you see a "welcome to trenchwars bla bla etc etc.."

How about we add a small notice asking players to help the community to thrive, and give them the link to the voting website that exalt pointed out?
