Either they don't say anything to new players or they say ez. I don't know why Im even bothering to post this , as i expect it to get trashed or ignored.
    Anyways who cares if new players are'nt sticking around. I think a small majority of veteran players probably like the fact that there are fewer and fewer challenges to overcome. I.e. new and up coming players. But the fact is no kid wants to play a game for a long time unless he makes some friends to keep it interesting. My two cents.
    i think the point is the veterans are getting bored with playing the same old veterans, no, i think we NEED new and up coming players to keep the competition up, the really old guys have quit mostly and its mainly the second generation players (mainly 99 and later) that are still playing, the original guys arnt here anymore

    this game is kept alive because there are always new generation players that stick to the game and get good

    and yes, old vets will always call newer guys newbs, and the newer guys will call the even newer guys newbs, and the new guys with more skill than the old guys will call them newbs, etc etc, its how it works, its all in good fun but its a tradition really, its never going to stop, your gonna have to deal with the trash talk and show the vets up with your skill, eventually they will respect you for it (or hate you more, depending on who the guy is, yes your right ward is an asshole)

        Izor doesn't deserve enough attention for someone to actually read a post that long.

            I have been here since what, 1996 or 1997 something, just before that new subspace version came out. This is what I experienced:

            - I had no idea how to play this game and what to do, but since I got introduced by a few friends of mine (Roxy for example), I had some 'realtime help' to understand it;

            - I started playing public and actually thought it was fun. Joined a few pubsquads like ToP DaWgZ with KAM, Corona, Sisqo etc. and before that I met The Scrotal Master. Best part of playing pub for me was LevTerring with Scrotal's Horde! and fighting people lower base. They changed pub maps too often, and personally (but I don't base) it got worse and worse;

            - I never knew about squadmatches etc. until I rejoined Scrotal's Horde!! after a while (with two !! now) and they were actually in a game. They asked if I knew how to play warbirds and invited me to start in a DL game. I ended up doing real good and because everyone was 'happy' I understood that playing such games was some serious business;

            - After I understood the 'importance of ratio' I started playing elim. Javs were incredibly difficult back then and only few knew how to play it. A very bad move was when they split elim and baseelim in two arena's. Back then those arena's were full with people, over 50 or something, so maybe theyhad no other choice. But ever since they split it, the population got from bad to worse (a development over the years) and the arena's were starting to get boring;

            - Minigames never had my interest. When I joined staff I found out that there were many different arena's where you could host something. Deathmatch back then was somewhat serious. But after some time hardly anyone seem to care about it anymore. UFC was original, but since a lot of people had to wait and left after they died, it really didnt make sense;

            - In those years TWL's status increased rapidly, while other 'lower leagues / tournaments', never were able to reach that status (TWT for example), while I personnaly think TWT was good since it let all squads play in a competition as well!;

            - Last few years the competition in TW(L) seems to be going down (average skill AND amount of good squads);

            - I personally think the TW forums has had a negative impact on the atmosphere in the game. When I got on forums I noticed how many people were hostile.

            So I'd say:

            - bring back old pubs;
            - bring elim and baseelim back together;
            - add a tutorial to the game that explains the basics and ultimate goals;
            - add TWT (or something simular) again to have all squads partcipating in a league;
            - get rid of hostile/negative TW forums and replace it with something better.

            I won't be around much longer prolly. But maybe i would show up for leagues.

              And this is probably why you have such a negative view on 'TW Vets' (which Ward does not fall under).

                this zone was already declining b4 the QS even was created.. =/

                it's been always those few "squads" who actually compete in TWL.. and like come on.. if u can get one of the best top class computers right now for 500-600$.. would u still waste your time on this game? lol
                9 TWL Titles - 5 TWLJ 3 TWLD 1 TWLB

                4:Akuun> Did Neth tell u about his Sims game?

                4:Akuun> ROFL

                  yep, agree wiht some of this stuff

                  combine elim arenas again
                  get rid of ?go javs (or at least the warp/streak bot)
                  get rid of all-hours-a-day screwball events (starcon, prodem, octabase... etc)
                  - hosting these sometimes are ok, just not all the freakin time
                  more real ?go deathmatch games (not supershark/golden gun/dumbness)
                  make non pure-pub the default pub when entering
                  maybe a ?go tutorial or something?

                  i honestly think that if you can get tw back to where people cared about being decent at wb/jav again the rest will follow suit. the best way i see doing this, force them to play it. rather, dont force... just dont give a whole lot of other options. by now even the wb's notice that ?go elim is a joke. its almost as bad as ?go baseelim is now. only possible thing to try is to shove them back together again. doesnt matter how you do it, just put them back together. the more people you can get to that arena at all hours of the day the better. back in the day, in the middle of a weekday night (US time) you could find about 10-15 active elimmers. youre lucky to find that at peak hours now.

                  so, if youre looking for a place to start... fix elim

                  edit: another idea i just came up with. combine elim arenas and remove usage limit. now, make getting 50 or 100 kills in elim unlock something. i dont care what, just something... then maybe somethign else at 300 kills? i dont know... just make it beneficial to other places in the zone to do well in elim. actually... not even well. just persistant. start it low, and just open up more and more options as you rack up kills.

                    Izors right, TW is dying because you didn't let his squad into TWL! Izor maybe you should try to join staff and actually help implement all these awesome ideas yourself instead of whining like a faggle.

                      This is true, I'd say early 2003 was the peak of this game...maybe even 2004 but we went from 700 players to 500 to 300-350 very quickly

                            I thought the peak was on 2002/2003.

                            Fuck this game, go do something more useful with your time. Be glad that it dies, since you don't have the power to quit yourself.

                              the peak of trenchwars was when TWD first started, since before that it was all private freq matches, once an automated system and a league of its own was formed, trenchwars skyrocketed, and it was around 02 if i remember right that TWD started, i cant remember, could be 01 though

                                Started with El Desperado / The Wicked ClownZ; then played with Na$ir / Na$ / Na$ <ZH> / Na$ <ER> for a long time. Got infamous for declaring war on racism in game years ago haha, which is one of the reasons I experienced a lot of hostile people. Later on Path of Daggers gave me Nasir. Few years back Roxy gave me Lame and now I use this as my primary name. Most people still call me Nas lol, like it's my real name B).

                                Ps to Izor: I know you said you don't care about it, but perhaps you should change the threadname. When I saw the name of the thread I only bothered to click on it because you wrote it and I assumed you had something useful to say since you don't make a lot of threads. But I agree that valid points are valid points, regardless who say it. Only problem is ofcourse that sometimes people rather listen to someone like Epi, instead of listening to someone like you and me.
