There is some major balance issues involved in the bigger picture to determine the power of the Lanc. By power I mean everything from ship movement (speed, turn speed), and the strength and frequence of each shot. When there are so many ships involved, one cannot just simply get boosted, without overhauling the other settings. By now, the balance of the other ships, exluding levi and weasel, is very fragile, and any tiny change to any ship may end up hurting the basing scene more than it will boost it by adding another viable ship. We've tried a good mix of settings, but it seems like there just isn't room for a Lanc at any settings in the pro basing scene.

Learn how to play any of the other ships, and from there you'll open the world of basing dramatically, rather than just wanting to play one ship. Most players would rather want to play javeling or warbird if they were given a choise, so everyone can't just play the ships they want. There is some mixes that works, and others that doesn't, and you need to be extremely proficient with basing to be able to experiement with different ship setups in a 8v8 basing game.

Take the advices you can get from those who have more experience, and you'll see that you will get integrated far better into the community, and you'll be able to enjoy it more in the long run.

lanc is maybe a fun ship for newbies or people who never learnt how to aim.. but beyond pub (dueling/basing leagues), it's simply useless.. it's too slow and it's only good move is thrust-firing, and with the altered settings a few years back or so, that doesn't even guarantee a terr-kill anymore these days.. so yeah.. if you really want to play a ship 'seriously' stay clear of the lancaster in tw..

1v1 in open space and with equal skill, lancs are inferior to spiders.

The only way a lanc can kill a spider is if the spider misses 23052034 shots, then the lanc shoots him. This is unlikely since the standard spider strategy is to vulch a weak enemy, not waste bullets on a ship with full energy. However, a team of lancs vs a team of spiders might fare better, especially if the spiders clump up and get rained on from afar with walls of L2 bullets. (The spids would probably also need to be cornered, since slow L2 bullets are easier to dodge in open space.)

The old lanc, with L2 bullets that were mostly lethal, was a much more dangerous ship.

Same reason i never play ?go base either. Its is full of newbs who think they know how to play, and want to let everyone know "ZOMG I CAN FLY SPACESHIP". Pub is where the real skill and fun is at.

The other ships in TW are quiet negected in leagues. TWLD used to allow any ship (a long time ago, before my time) The D bit means Dueling, but now its just WBs.

as far as I know, svs leagues don't restrict ships. (although obviously TW ship differences are ridiculous compared to svs ship differences.. for example, jav is worthless when dueling with open-space ships like wb and lanc)

Well, I just got to play "base"... I was picked in the first game, and got to play lancaster... I did well personally, especially compared to the team, but we lost. Was still fun, though (constant 'how can he miss in lanc' comments notwithstanding).

In the second game, my team put me in spider, refused to switch me out, and removed me because I wanted to play lanc, only... After much stereotypical derision, namecalling, etc. by my own team/captain. It's old. So, I left.

I'll try basing a bit more, but honestly, where is the fun, if I don't get to play?

Public has instant start fun, no waiting. Why would i wait around in ?go base to be told "play spider or go home"?

TWLB has lots of ship restrictions too. However lancs are not resticted, and are very useful. I recommend you find a squad that BD's and is willing to try line outs that are not traditional.
