Why can I type 'fag' and 'chink' but saying 'n****r' or 'j*w' gets me banned?

They don't ban racism, they ban the word.

The N word and the J word are probably banned because those groups were subject to extreme, grotesque and well-documented human rights abuse, and it wasn't long enough ago that ongoing degradation, even if only verbal, isn't still unsettingly close to a time when those words accompanied by violence on a large scale.

Look at 0:24 in this video. Black people were sprayed with firehoses at full bore, attacked by dogs, beaten by policemen, just because they were black and standing around while peacefully conducting a boycott of segregated Birmingham businesses. That was 1963, which means it probably could've been your grandparents on either side of that hose. At the time, using the N word was an everyday expression of one's attitude that black people were inferior and deserving of only subhuman treatment. When you use it now, regardless of your intent, it still has that context and still evokes a time of severe hate and moral folly. So the thing to do is to not use it. If you'd end it with an R, try not intentionally or inadvertently insulting every black person you've ever met and never met by referring to a centuries-long span of time when they were treated like animals. If you end it with an A, try getting your own culture, since in all likelihood you are not black. :fear:

Well, living in SC (where our idiotic legislature still flies the Confederate flag infront of the state house) and going to a school that was thorougly mixed, I can say that I haven't ever used the n word with an "r" on it. I can say that I've heard it a million times, and I usually just kinda frown and don't say much because in a good ol' boy state doing so ostricizes you, though I'd like to tell them to fuck off.

I listen to a lot of rap music, so shoot me. I don't belittle people for listening to country... just the music itself. I don't listen to WalMart cds, and they say the n word obsessively. Am I offending people who ride in my car or people in the streets if my windows are down? Are they instantly thinking of centuries of mistreatment, or are they just annoyed with the music? I think 99% of the time it would be the latter. I don't feel ashamed for listening to that music with friends in the car, white or black. In fact, if anything, I'm probably more inclined to feel embarassed or awkward than they are to feel offended.

I only say this because I was banned for posting lyrics to a song in a pub with like 5 ppl in it. I was initially warned, then when I brought up the fact that people say fag, chink, etc, without reproach, i was banned. Easier to shut someone up than explain holes in one's policy.

But they either warn or ban on the spot for just using a word (whatever the situation). So why not ban for context and those other terms?

Epi's point was not to get "the whole system" as you put it to start policing the talk in the zone. I want staff to devote what time they can to developing and running events, not to sorting out stupid arguments from immature morons. If a bot can get most of them who are dumb enough to say the magic words without taking up 50% of our staff members time, energy, patience, interest etc, then fine. Obscene blocks swear words for the same reason it does in every other game, stop hating on staff who obviously "care" more then your whining...the whole system is a farce haha drama queen.

I honestly don't see why we pick and choose like that what insults people can hurl at eachother. It's not like certain insults don't hurt other people if used.

Just to clarify, my point is that it's stupid that the powers that be thing that SOME forms of discrimination and racism are perfectly acceptable, but racism against OTHER groups is not.

I believe if the point of this is to regulate speech, then we should at least be consistent and monitor ALL racist/discriminatory words.

But since we can all agree that's kind of stupid and impossible, it's probably better to just let people say whatever they want, and just enforce the spamming rules if people are spamming you with racism.

It's actually discrimination by staff to allow abuse and discrimination towards one group, like fags and jews, and then disallow the same type of discrimination towards chocolate people.

Also it won't be a problem with people spamming it, just make the spam rules stricter and ban them for spamming instead. I honestly think it's equally annoying with "LOLOLLOLLOL" spam down 10 lines as "NI*GER" spam down 10 lines.
