New Pub rules/changes?!

Fair enough. I never said this was professional, or that they do get paid; I just thought it could be a cool idea to adopt that attitude. But I guess you can't hide the fact that a lot of Devs are teens which lack maturity - mix that with hostile 'regulars' and I shouldn't really expect anything else. It's everybody's fault. So ya maybe for different reasons, I guess I reach the same end conclusion as you do.

In my opinion we should start a more strict policy on flaming, trolling and spamming. All major forums ban jerks that try to ruin the forums. Like a Finnish forum admin of one of the most popular forums in Finland said: 1 jerk gone, 100 others glad. Getting rid of the filth on these forums could also make it more appreciated thus have more active forum users that don't have to get upset reading forums, but only enjoy their hobby.

Nice try Ara and Danknuggetz, unfortunately the latter wants to call people out for talking shit to people even though they haven't done anything constructive themselves blah blah blah. Well I am sure you can ask around about my years of credentials spent serving this zone, and creating events. As for you Ara, I know you would like nothing better than to try enforcing some retarded rule like that, unfortunately a majority of the players agree with my positions so who is the one actually trolling here? Would it be the person who is very fluently speaking his mind about the terrible ideas that would destroy this zone or turn it into something that it was never meant to be or would it be the useless "Dean of Staff" who recruited such outstanding players as Delectable, SouthernGal <ER>, and numerous others who can't seem to form a coherent sentence in an advert for an event they are hosting? I would assume that someone who has been as useless on the forums during their long tenure as they have been in the game wouldn't want to try for creating a rule that would get rid of one of the most active forum members, and one whom players agree with when it comes to in game matters. I guess my experience there means more than ignorant Finnish staffers trying their hardest to make sure nobody gets a e-booboo when they fuck up big time.

There's absolutely no need for me to "ask around" because all you do in arguments like this is proclaim "all you've done" for TW. I'm not saying you didn't host a lot of events and do a lot with TWL but in all honesty, can you name one thing you've done for pub? I sure can't. I may not have the authority or clout to get anything done but I played pub a lot more than you do and I did spend a good deal of time polling people on what they wanted changed and quantifying their responses.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been running the past couple of times I've logged on so there's very little I can offer as far as constructive critisim.

Which brings me to why I"m posting.... is it going to be tested again anytime soon and can we get a heads up beforehand?

A lot of zones also ban worthless and abusing staff members, lets adopt that so none of us need to worry about you anymore.

Seriously the most active forums members here are usually some of the most controversial as well. I'm sorry if guys like Wark are hurting your feelings by telling the truth, but banning them isn't the answer. You could always, oh I don't know, just grow up instead?

I think my first hand experience during this ideas trial trumps your pub polling.

And the fact that like 3-4 of the things were removed within 30 minutes of it starting because I voiced my opinions and those of a majority of the public playerbase during the trials shows that I actually did something for the pub. I don't think you can say the same no matter how many people you have talked to.

Why don't you take a few seconds to actually read the post you're responding to? I haven't played the new pub settings, they've been down since I tried yesterday. If I had a chance to be there I would probably be saying the same thing in regards to the initial reaction by pubbers.

When I say I polled people, I mean Cpt. Poo Face and myself spend about a month a 1 1/2 years ago polling about 50 or so people in pub with a text survey and gathered open ended and multiple choice repsonses. We probably asked 3x as many more to take teh survey but they didn't want to spend the time.

Most of their ideas were pretty far out there. Some of them, such as an attach bounty for javs, were good ideas. None of the ideas involved buying ships to unlock or any other of that stuff that I didn't get to witness.

I never fail to give you credit for "voicing your opinion" but were by no means the only person complaining about the ship restrictions. If you and a bunch of other people share an idea or opinion, you don't get to take credit for it alone, egomaniac.

You posted on the forums and people took your advice? Hell, if they (you included) had actually listened to any of the imput we gathered there might not be such a backlash next time they change it up.

I can't say the same because I don't have friends on staff... but it's all the same to me. Today was utterly boring. Two elims with less than 10 people in them. One pub arena functioning. No chance of DD. This game is beyond dead. I looked forward to seeing if the new changes would be fun. Never got the chance, doesn't look like I will. Oh well, maybe something cool will be going on in a couple of next time i check in.

This thread is a key reason why playing a game that we will never get the source code to, nor be able to receive regular updates, or playing on an outdated server is a bad idea. Power instantly moves to the bot makers, because we don't have the ability to do what they do. Why do you think people got into power they way they did in society throughout the ages. I now see why Dexter gets so aggravated while trying to improve this zone. He works for days and weeks on projects, and then we have these critics that bash him every time. I have no problem with someone voicing their opinion, but please don't attack and insult him personally.

Having said that, I think this new pub can be very fun once people get used to it and figure out how it works. Restricting ships that have the ability to TK others is a good idea. I don't particularly like the part of restricting WB's, as they are the main fighter ship and cause problems for team. All in all I think this is going to be a good thing. I still need to play it a while longer to get used to it. Great work Dexter, and all involved on this project.

You guys didn't even wait more than 12 hours before you started lashing out at the idea. Obviously there's going to be things to work out but maybe 5 people talking in this thread really should have an opinion on what goes on in the public arenas. Why? Because they're the ones who actually play them.

I sat in the pub when this started for an hour and nobody there liked the idea either, the coder had HARD CODED BANS for certain players into the system on his own accord without that player doing anything or any other staffer saying it was ok, people were playing in warbird but there was a "lock out warbird" feature so people would get changed to some other random ship. So at certain points during this trial run 4/8 of the ships were unplayable without paying money for it. Don't you think locking half of the ships and hard coding bans for specific players into the code of this new "public arena for tw" made it something that thankfully didn't last 12 hours? Of course I didn't see you there when it was being ran so I know you couldn't see the 75% of pubbers angrily protesting the change as the coder himself who was playing used his knowledge of the system would abuse it to gain an advantage by spamming !buy fullcharge (or whatever the command is).

Restore the F1 help ... it used to be way better

many new players ask for buttons etc how do i warp burst etc i'd tell them to look up F1 help for THEIR buttons and also it gave other handy commands like ?sound= %killer etc etc .... curently it's just this money system and name droping and no practical use.

well i agree there is too much trolling on this thread i disagree with 5 ppl being allowed an opinion. I certainly pub over the years and also we should all be concerned with the changes and affects that it would have as it could impact on other areas from being the first arena newcomers play to putting off old ppl you talk to ever logging in again.

The frequent DB requests (if any any or possibly done in bulk record dumps) could cause more frequent crashing. Also I'm a little skeptical about the amount of LVZ updates per player that need to be performed.
